IIRC, Jack Finney has denied that he intended his novel to be an allegory for America's fear of the Red Menace.

I read (somewhere) recently, that it could very well be the opposite, and be a critisim of the McCarthy witch hunts, which would also make sense.

i like the ending of a movie when the pace picks up and builds up to a climax,
usually u only find this american movies as brits tend to concentrate on drama or wild openings to grab the attention and stop people walking out (and then meander off from there)

an example would be the build up to the end of TRON, i nearly always find myself looking at my watch and hoping that it doesnt end yet, another is teh final bit of BRAVEHEART and DANCES WITH WOLVES as well - i think it means u are totally immersed in the moment and want it to continue indefinitely

Ok, some of these have already been mentioned but i like the following

no-one mentioned EASY RIDER! I nearly cried first time i saw that! Truly gobsmacking.
The Empire Strikes Back. Oh yes.
Fight Club. IMO one of the most beautiful final shots evah!
Beavis and Butthead do America. Our heroes disappear into the sunset with their beloved TV throwing juvenile insults at each other
Waynes World. 'Let's do the Scooby Doo ending!' arf!
Crouching Tiger... Ok, so we all saw it coming, but wasn't it perfect?
Tromeo and Juliet. 'Fuck it, we've come this far!'
Bad Taste. 'I'm comin to get yoooooou bastards!'

That'll do for now, i think!

Christ, I forgot about the ending of easy rider. That shocked me when I first saw it when I was a nipper, so did Jack Nicholson's character getting his head stoved in by a bunch of Hicks. Damn, that's a good film, I've gotta get it on DVD!
