February 13: David Cronenberg to chart HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Cronenberg has signed on to direct New Line?s A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, based on the first in the Paradox Graphic Mystery line of graphic novels published by Paradox Press and DC Comics. Josh Olson, who wrote and directed the killer-fly film INFESTED, scripted the adaptation, which explores what happens to an ordinary family?s life after the father commits an apparently justified vigilante killing. The graphic novel was created by John (JUDGE DREDD) Wagner and Vince Locke (and was followed up by the ROAD TO PERDITION book adapted into the Tom Hanks movie). JC Spink and Chris Bender?s Benderspink company, whose THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT is in theaters now, will produce; this marks the first studio project for Cronenberg since he helmed Fox?s NAKED LUNCH back in 1991.

Something Fishy

I suppose he'd be a grown up by now.

What do you reckon he's done with his life?

Hope it's A. Good and B. Wagner gets paid loads of bawbies.

Has Chronenberg not made a movie since 1991?  He's made Existenz since hasn't he?

Considering the subject matter and the drector, I reckon this will make uncomfortable watching.

Cracking graphic novel (in the true sense of the word) though.

I think what he means is that Cronenberg hasn't made a studio backed and generated film since the Naked Lunch (Existenz and others were made outside of this in his native Canda, as well as the regular tv and short film work that he still does).

Warren Ellis (sounds like a character from Last of the Summer Wine) said that he really liked A History of Violence, which is a good recommendation (if you like his work. If you don't, you probably couldn't give two figs as to his opinion)
