Well we?ve had ending but what are good beginnings

Star Wars of course? that star destroyer pressing you down in the seat.

Once upon a time in the West? wait that bad guy its?! and all that stuff at the station that builds up the tension forever

Alien? best slow build evah

Blade Runner? just beautiful

Mr D

Memento.... Fantastic!

Can't think right now, but will get back to this one!!

Quirkafleeg

Oh yeah, Mememto really throws you into the movie and expects you to start thinking from the get go.

Unbreakable... subtle stuff and gread sound design

The Wild Bunch

If anyone moves... Kill 'em

and the guys dressed up as monkeys in 2001: A Space Odyssey

DEAD OR ALIVE (Takashi Miike) has the most exciting opening 10 minutes I've ever seen, and the longest line of Cocaine

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE lets you know where it stands right from the creepy flashbulb-lit-sequence of the corpse-art

ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS with the corpse rising under the sheet before its brains are blown out!

Devons Daddy

my thoughts

Love actaully.
the opening scene is very real to any who travel a lot.to a point of really makeing you smile inside.

JUDGE DREDD
the fact it was dredd. he was there.the rest of the movie of course is history. but that feeling when it began. wow.

most of the bond movies.
they created the genre of the opening scene.
golden eye.the spy who loved me. from russia with love.all excellent.

I AM VERY BUSY!
PJ Maybe and I use the same dictionary, live with it.

NO 2000ad no life!

Two more spring to mind. The noise from the back of the car in Goodfellas and what settles it, followed by that famous line.

And the start of The Thing. You're not sure what's going on at first, other than that husky is far too smart not to be up to something...

Mangamax

No, no no. Best ever - and never will be beaten - is the first 5 minutes of The Road Warrior. More energy, thrills and verve in that in the whole of most action films made today.
The perspective on that chairs all wrong

The Fellowship of the Ring

Raiders of the Lost Ark has the perfect mini adventure at the start, telling you everything you need to know about the character.

Aslo, as mentioned above: The Thing, a real whathtefuckisgoingon? begining.

esoteric ed

Yep, Star Wars is the first one that comes to mind, a class act.

Another I like is the opening scenes of Get Carter, Jack's train journey into a dusky Newcastle with the credits rolling and (SPOILER) the hitman in the same compartment as Jack.

Loads more I guess, these were the first to spring to mind.

Adrian Bamforth
