Adrian - what's that?

'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!', directed by Russ Meyer.

It's not quite as good as his earlier masterpiece, 'Wild Girls of the Naked West', IMO.

Surprised you didn't mention Jaws ed!

It's up there Gary, but I think Star Wars is the stealer...

I do love the opening scene of JAWS, the unseen shark just added to it all, not seeing but certainly knowing what's lurking beneath those waves... CHOMP!

A pal of mine in the US actually owns the metal buoy in that scene. :-0

I agree with Ed on Get Carter - fantastic opener which sets the mood for the whole film. Also, nice shot of a five fingered man later in the film.

And Dawn Of The Dead.

rc

Yeah - the TV debate, the SWAT guy going beserk and the exploding head are top

DAY OF THE DEAD has a great opener too; those sudden dead-hands-through-the-wall shock every single time, even when they are anticipated...! And what about that alligator?

I feel like watching this flick tonight.

Psycho; if you watched this film "cold" for the first 20 minutes you'ld think you were watching a crime thriller, then suddenly...WOAH!

Ed, in the bar scene when Carter gets a phone call IIRC. Clear shot of guy holding a pint. With all FIVE fingers in view. Been a while since I last watched it, but could easily watch the film over and over...

VampiraJen

well as i said in the other thread, two towers - gandalf vs the balrog

x-men in the nazi death camps, that's a hell of a way to open a 'comic book movie'

Dunk!

Electro Glide in Blue.

Faceless man starts to cook a steak for his breakfast, then is seen loading a shotgun; serves up the steak, there's the loud gunshot off-screen and then a bloodied hand cuts a piece of the freshly served steak with a fork and the man begins to eat whilst seemingly dying from a shotgun wound.

Utterly weird but does its job; you want to know what's happening and continue to watch.
"Trust we"

The Enigmatic Dr X

Swordfish.

I didn't like the film (except for Ms Berry's berries), but the opening hostage scene is great. Escpecially if you don't know Travolta is the hostage-taker, and you think he is a good guy doing the voice over.

Lock up your spoons!

Can't believe no-one mentioned 2001:a space odyssey.Totally mind blowing!
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life. But why would I want to do a thing like that?

How could I forget that one!
