As someone who disapeared for a time due to the angst on the board, Ill say to Dud what he said to me.

"dont go you are one of the first people I read on this site and you probably make it interesting for others too" or words to that effect.

But its been mentioned a lot, in more ways than one by myself, Si, Trout and others.  But just to reiterate.

Its not necessarily rc whose causing people to leave (he certainly doesnt help) but the reaction to him.  The over reaction to his provactave posts have certainly given the impression that we are close minded analy retentive bunch of w@nkers who dont like new people or ideas.  Now I know this isnt the case but thats how it looks and by reading, for example, the mills thread on Gavins site,  It seems for definate that this is the case.

So my plea is, if you dont like what anyone has to say, either ignore them or take apart what they have said coz Im getting a little tired of all the personal stuff, it puts none of us in a good light.

If you and your buddies are so hacked off and annoyed and irritated, maybe you are just hacked off and annoyed and irritated people - and it obviously takes very little to hack off, annoy and irritate you.

All this "leaving" talk over some disagreements is pathetic, and I doubt they are authentic gestures anyway.

The usual suspects RC? I stopped arguing with you on the second thread I met you on, there have been a lot of arguments since then.  I've said hello when you've been in the chatroom, replied to your threads, though I have had you killfiled, because I find you exasperating.

I think it's a real shame that people who had a problem with you didn't also killfile you sooner.  In fact, this is a re-run of the scojo incident where I spent ages asking people to killfile him and stop the rot.

I don't think it's all one sided, people are having a go at you, and I can understand you don't want to let that go.  But it is a snowball effect.  You argue with someone, a third person gets annoyed and joins in and then it all goes to hell.

I'm not sure how to avoid it, maybe if I start to killfile people I like who are arguing with you as well that might help.  It's crazy it's at that stage.

Anyway, there you go, not sure if this post is as predictable as the last one.  

Can I just ask though, are you Scojo?

If there were more posts like this one on this business and less high and mighty, reactionary abuse then we may all just be able to live in harmony.

You're right about the snowball effect, and I can't help but think that many people who have used their Killfile and do not read my posts are reacting to only what they see in an antagonised post from someone else.

This is the problem with filtering only half of the argument through - if you have me Killfiled, you cannot take my point of view into consideration.

I want to talk about the comic, and about anything else that may be relevant to a group of obviously intelligent people.

But I regret I am not above retorting to insults or misinterpretations, at least not from some who appear undeniably self-satisfied and pompous.

I'd be sorry to loss any boarder who's threads have entertained me, but with RC being subtly threatened with physical violence at Dreddcon this board has sunk to a real low. Pathetic.

That also highlights what Slips says a fire needs fuel and many established boarders have given willingly with playground abuse.

I'm very sorry at the prospective loss of Dudley and BT and hope that they and many others who are threatening to leave, dont.

Since I came to this board it has provided me with enourmous fun, a lot of laughs and some serious thinking in between.  

Without the people who are threatening to leave then where will the thinkers be?  The entertainers?  Sod it I'm depressing myself now.

This thread gives some of the most reasoned arguements around the rc thing fir some time (note that is not a blame) and like someone else mentioned I also things were settling down.  I feel that given time it might just setle down again.  PVS is right about the snowball effect and I think that this is what has happened here.

I won't be going anywhere else and I look forward to a point where the others fel happy about comming back.

have to say.
whilst i think rc has been less then friendly on occassion. i have taken him off the kill file list.
the he has posted some funny responses, and started some decent threads in the last few days.

i am sorry to see some entertaining boarders feel the need to move away.
i shall be staying. i really enjoy it here.
i will not stand against or for any position taken by the people who post  here.
i look forward to interacting with those that choose that remain,.

I liken this place to your local pub, its where you go to kick back, relax and enter into great meaningful discussions with your friends or talk complete bollocks till the small hours until you loose the ability to talk.

I don?t know about you lot but I live in a small village but even I don?t like everyone at my local and when I?m in there I choose who to mix with depending on my mood, who they are or whether they are the local loony.

Why should a message board be any different, why do people feel compelled to read every post by people that if they were in a pub they?d choose not to talk to or move along the bar.

Although I don?t use the killfile option, mostly because I get the message board by e-mail, there are people or threads that I skim over without reading. Don?t see the killfile option as something negative but a way of making the place somewhere that you come to have fun. Take it for granted that like any other place it?ll have its share of people who will make you laugh or voice an opinion that you will argue with, either for or against but on the flip side there will be people you don?t want to talk to or get on your tits.

Use the killfile, its not a negative thing, ignore people, you are under no obligation to read everything, why walk away when its not difficult to manage the board to suit you. If the board seems to be driving you mad then don?t read it for a few days, don?t indulge and allow your head to clear before dipping in again.

Like a pub choose who you talk to, work out where to stand so you avoid the people you don?t like and when things seem to be going mad or you don?t have anything to say, take time to move along the bar and look at the barmaids breasts.
