I for one don't want Dud an' BT to go, though i can totally understand why the would want to. I personally don't have a huge prob with rc. At times i think he's damn funny, helpful and informative. But frankly i've skipped over most of his posts the last couple days cos i know damn well what they'll contain and i am bored with it. (rc: perhaps that's why others aren't 'reading your posts properly') I don't think things are likely to improve either and if a choice must be made, i'd rather have the others back. It's gone too far now. He has to go. Sorry.

paulvonscott

That's certainly true, if people have a real problem with rc it would be best to killfile him, rather than get pissed off to the degree they have where they say things they regret.

If people aren't bothered by rc and like reading his posts then obviously they shouldn't killfile him.  It's not a punishment, it's just a way to enjoy the board without being annoyed by people you don't get on with.

I killfiled him just because I found him completely exasperating and (apart from boarders suddenly deciding to go) I've had no reason to be pissed off with him since because he simply hasn't been here.

If people who have a problem with rc killfile him, then this is over.  It's that simple.  You can't get annoyed by anything he says, he doesn't have to respond to the abuse and nobody else gets dragged in.

Darryl

With today being the only chance ill get before new years to post, I would just like to thank everyone on the boards for the last six months of fun n games!

I wrote that on Xmas Day.  I still visit here, but more and more I find that people are getting wound up, or even worse letting themselves get wound up by one annoying little git. He knows EXACTLY what he's doing, and, like slips has said, we're fuelling his ego by rising to the bait.

I wasn't around for s**j*, and Im glad that I wasn't, but this is getting out of hand, to the point where Wake is deleting threads because of the abuse flung from BOTH SIDES.

C'mon guys, we all got along famously apart from the occasional difference of opinion, and now we are all at each others throats and threatening to leave, which is exactly what he wants.

Let's not give in to him, or any others who would try to disrupt what was, a fun place to be.

Tanky

I'm not sure it's worked. I can still see his messages. Does it only work with new ones?

Matt Timson

Must be my turn then.

Just to make it nice and sparkly clear and chop any rumours off at the legs- I made a complaint to Wake about several things concerning RC- none of them included my asking for a ban.  Personally, I don't like him- or rather I don't like the attitude he projects on this forum, but if he gets on with other boarders, who am I to ask for a ban?

Some people are going to wind you up- that's a given.  There are several people on this board that have wound me up before now- but I get on fine with all of them.  They are a mix of those that arrived both before and after I did and I find this whole 'established boarders' thing ludicrous.  It takes about five minutes to become established.

If other people want to leave, then that's up to them.  I don't personally advocate dumping RC on the grounds that those who can't hack it might come back if he goes.  Maybe they will, maybe they won't- maybe they'll come back anyway.  That said, I don't think it's particularly clever to slag them off and laugh at their decisions on their way out either.

For the last couple of weeks, any dissenting view by certain people (obviously myself included) has been treated as hostile by RC.  However it started, this is now a proven fact.  I know there's no way I can join a thread that he's involved with because it's not simply a matter of opinion or point of view that's the problem as far as I'm concerned- it's the attitude that goes with it.  Any reasonable debate will slide into chaos almost as soon as I and certain others enter it, ending only when the last post says RC on it.  This isn't the way I want the place to be, but I don't own it, don't run it and, contrary to popular belief, have no say in how it should or shouldn't be run.

I've tried killfiling and I've even asked that RC respect that, just 'debate' with others and leave me out of it- but I'm told that I'm fair game and that if I don't want to remove the blinkers of the killfile, then that's my problem.  So what do I do?  I can't 'win' a debate (although I can perpetuate it indefinately), I can't agree to disagree (that's only for people who's argument won't hold water) and I can't even killfile and ignore (and I respect that this is as much a failing on my own part because I allow it to wind me up).

I'll post an entry to the 'Redesign Dredd' thread, if I get the time and will be found in the chat every now and then, no doubt- but as far as the board goes, that's it for me too, for the time being.  It's just not worth the grief.

Cheers.
Pffft...

Slippery PD

If you killfile someone you see nothing in the message threads but will be able to see them in say the chat room.

Im not of the opinion that rc is out to destroy the board or even put his mark on it.  He might be, he might not be.  Personally I dont care.  But the more people over react to his posts the worse this place becomes.  That in my mind has hugely exaserbated the problem.  Many people who I consider "good guys" have lowered themselves to mud slinging and that cant be the correct thing to do.

Like Logan said, if you dont like what hes saying move along theres plenty of other people here to agree or chat with.  Life is too short, to make an enemy out of someone whose only interaction with you is through a series of computers.   It is after all only a comic?!?!?!?!?  :)

Yer Slips

PS - on AWS someone is having a good old chuckle at this and has even "used" the idea of more than one board, not that it hasnt been mentioned on a number of occasions.
PPS - a second board for threads like politics or religion makes sense though, they tend to cause the majority of the arguments

W. R. Logan

Even if a boarder personally slags you off it doesn?t mean you have to answer, just ignore it. Like I said move along the bar, don?t reply or get into a fight, or before we know it we have the message board equivalent of a bottling.

Time for a word from the King.

The way to keep the board positive is to participate properly.
I almost bailed out a few weeks ago, but since then I've been perfectly happy with how things are working, because I've tried to promote positivity and fun.

RC is easy to ignore. If he launches an attack, don't reply.
I've done it a couple of times, and it works perfectly well.
Doubtless he will get shirty in reply to this, but I don't much care. Sooner or later, he'll leave or get himself banned.

The board will be poorer for the loss of those who are going, and I ask you all to stay.

In fact, bollocks to that. I order it.

Get your arses back here, now!

Tiplodocus

I'm actually getting a bit embarassed by the whole thing myself.  It must be terrible to have the official website tainted by this sort of tit-for-tat abuse; The sooner they migrate us the better for the image of 2000AD.

It's all stimulus-response.  You can choose how you react to any kind of provocation. I don't accept "HE/SHE makes me angry" as an excuse from my children and I'm amazed that people try it here.

You can also control your circle of influence as well.  It's pretty easy to see when a thread starts to degenerate and therefore pretty easy to skim over the chaff (with or without the killfile). As Logan says, it's a virtual Pub. You soon learn who are, in your eyes, the pub bores and ignore them.  You don't keep sidling up to them to convince them of your case.

You should begin your posts with an idea of what the end result will be.  What are you really trying to achieve when you post? Are you trying to further the debate and spread the 2000AD word or are you just trying to annoy somebody or get one over on them.

A pint for the person who figures out the last book I read.

(Also cue lots of people digging up my old posts where I call people names... )
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

Well, it wasn't Eats Shoots and Leaves, was it?

You missed a question mark, dino-boy.

Heh, heh, heh.
