final analysis is good too (the sequel is poor though)

Scream 3, if only for Courtney Cox's haircut.
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

Buddy

Love the first HELLRAISER movie, even if some of the effects look a bit ropey now.

Second one was OK.

Third one was shit.

Havn't seen the forth, but I hear it's quite good.

Didn't know there was a fifth until recently (unless the person who told me about it was making it all up).

Mr D

No, it's true. 5 Hellraiser films.

There's 6 HELLRAISERs (2002 HELLSEEKER).

The first is the best, the second I always enjoyed despite the negative reviews ("The Doctor... is iinnn!", and the woman without the skin!) but the HELL ON EARTH I disagree was shit.

It's top adult horror right from the nightclub bit at the start, has some great characters, top camerawork, a good soundtrack, some gruesome deaths and nice new Cenobites (Camerhead, CD).

Mr D

6? Wow! I've only seen the 5 so far. I quite like them, but Clive Barker just doesn't quite do it for me...

Mr D

8. There are 8 Hellraiser films, or will be by the end of the year:

Hellraiser: Deader
A journalist uncovers an underground group who can bring back the dead and slowly becomes drawn into their world.

Hellraiser: Hellworld
Pinhead returns to terrorize computer hackers that have opened a virtual Lament Configuration on the website Hellworld.com.

Jesus Christ. Sound like a bit of a laugh though...!!

not scary but one of Barkers best films would have to be Nightbreed(based on the excelent Cabal novela). Movie has it all Gore, Awsome makeup(still holds up well today)and the most kick arse plot around, I love the fact that Humans are the bad guys and the Nightbreed the good guys. Anyone ever read any of the Nnightbreed comics got about 6 issues at home really want more. Movie so needs a sequal....Actually liked the second Hellraiser(Hellbound) more than the first love the surreal hell maze at the end and "the Doctor is in and I recomend...amputation" line is just wonderfull.

8 now?

Fuck, I'm way outta touch.

No franchise is safe from reaching double figures these days - give it a year or so and Freddy will be back.

Did you mention Clive Barker? I think he is overrated in the horror genre [by Stephen King too of all people], but HELLRAISER is an excellent horror film.

Did not like NIGHTBREED much though. There was a cameo by David Cronenberg, wans't there?

Mr D

Considering the last 2 entries in the Freddy series, New Nightmare and FVJ, I wouldn't mind. Englund is great in the role. So long as it never gets treated as a big gay joke, I could live with it.

I WANTED to like Barker so much, especially with such excellent references (including as you said several from SK) but he just isn't my style. Though I do see the merits in the first 3 Hellraiser films - I just don't like them too much.

I thought the exact same thing when I checked it - god, I'm out of touch!!

Nightbreed was bad. But 25 MINUTES were cut from it, so I won't judge it till I've seen the entire original version.

Steamboy

PVS...eh?
RC - Croninberg was the major badguy serial killer in Nightbreed, total looney who wants to wipe out all the Breeders in the world(just normal people) I think he's quite good in the movie. I dont really veiw Barker as a pure horror writter, his Books of Blood have some scary stories in em but I veiw him as more a Fantasy writter with a paticularly dark edge. Both Weaveworld and Imajica have some of the best world building in em ever, fleshed out the worlds and characters so well in single books. Haven't read his latest(Coldheart Canyon IIRC)anyone know if its any good seems like he's going back towards his more Horror type stuff. Oh yeah The Theif Of Always is the best kids book I've ever read(read when I was 23).

NIGHT BREED is one of my faves - was going to be a tv series but they canned it and the comics are excellent,

i quite liked another movie of barkers book with scott bakula in it too but cant remember the name, they made a cartoon of thief of always but i dont think its out yet,

then u have ectokid and hyperkind movies in productions from the barkerverse and there was a cenobites movies supposed to be out last year but i dont know what happenned to it

new nightmare was good, i wouldnt mind more freddy along those lines but freddy v jason is not what we wanna see really, the jason are all the same, only first few and H2O are any good IMO

I thought NEW NIGHTMARE was exruciatingly flat and boring - witness Wes Craven right up his own arse - and all the Freddys after DREAM WARRIORS had little to recommend them.

FRIDAY 13ths are sometimes watchable (the first one is a classic in slasher movies, and THE FINAL CHAPTER has some great gory scenes in the uncut version), though no.s 5 to 9 are pretty routine.

JASON X was fun!

H20 was HALLOWEEN 8 - I thought that was terrible too with it's bad casting, stupid resurrection of the dead Jamie Lee Curtis character and completely unscary direction.

Steamboy

ah that movie with Bakula in it isn't too bad(cant remember its name at the mo)all about magic and illusions(actually I think its called Lord of Illusion) but I dont think its based on one of his stories I think it was written as a screenplay by Barker. Clive Barkers definatly an aquired taste all his books are weirdly erotic which probably puts most people off.  I heard about The Theif catoon years ago just after it came out, I wonder if it was ever finished and waiting for release or just never finished.
