Er... help?

My girlfriend has just upgraded her PC (ok... I did it, with the help of male members of her family) but just the RAM. Strange thing is, only HALF the amount we've put in is recognised by the PC...

Why??

assuming you put two sticks in, one hasnt been seated properly, push it in again or try another slot.

Either that or memory sticks of different sizes have to be inserted in the memory banks in a certain order. Check your motherboard's manual.

Also, what are the memory sticks in value? What operating system are you using?

Could be different BUS speeds as well, I suppose?

Youl have to let us know what hardware you have and what memory youve put in and wether that memory is viewable on startup or wether its halved when the OS kicks in?

Ok, I forget what we put in (it was a week or two back) but I'll check and let you know in about an hour or so. It's halved from when the machine starts up, never visible. We're working on Windows 2000 (recently upgraded from 98).

Some of the memory values may not match the ones already in there which they have to.

ie. if she had 8MB thingies and you tried to add 16MB thingies they wouldn't work.
