If anyone buys SFX there is a load of stuff on Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galexy this month including a picture of Marvin The Paranoid Android from the upcoming film.
Weirdly he looks like a mini-stormtrooper with a basketball for a head and a pot belly. A curiuosly good design...
He's being "played" by the bloke who was in Lepricaun and Star Wars I & II. Can't remember his name off hand.
But Ford Prect BLACK? Gonna take awhile to get the tv version of the character outta my head...
Also an artical on the new radio stuff too.

Sorry no link to actual picture, dunno how to!

Catch ya on the Darkside...! Now where's me towel?

"But Ford Prefect BLACK?"

May I suggest Thornton Reed?  He has had a little acting experience.

Seriously, Richard Ayode, who plays TR, would be brilliant as Ford.

I'm guessing the casting of Ford is to appease the US market, because, at least in my mind, it simply doesn't work. The actor in question (Mos Def) would have been well suited to playing Zaphod, though. Still, we'll see...

Is it still Nighy and Tim from the office as Slartibartfast and Dent?

I take it this is the picture.

I'm assuming the final thing will looke a bit more robotic. Looks okay to me, trouble with Marvin is he's not designed to be depressed, he just is, so it must be hard to get the balance right. Something too slick and well-designed might not work.

I'm glad the movie seems to be a clean break from the book-casting wise, looking forward to see different interpretations of the characters.

hmmm.... I think Adams original intention was for Marvin to be all slick and prefect in construction but kind of stooped and sagging and depressed in attitute...

Through an ultra-cute Black Hole type robot that's ultra-depressed might work..

They appear to be working off the "brain the size of a planet" line

Indeed, Ford Prefect's played by a black actor (can't remember his name).

Devons Daddy

looking forward to this.
but how true are they remaining to the book.
this could be a wonderful testament one of the best books ever written
or a complete and utter pile of manure.

anyone know any thing about the script?

PJ Maybe and I use the same dictionary, live with it.

I'm really dreading this in away.  Like alot of things that you hold dear, you hope that its going to be really good and live up to even half your expectations but sadly many of things never manage to do that.

GW - I read that idea about marvin, too. Basically a sports car with psychological issues.

This design looks like they're playing up to the comedy aspect too much. They should get a guy from Sony to do the design.

Tanky

I really hope the mice aren't Stuart Little clones! I like Marvin though, kinda cute!
The script could totally make or break this one...

DONT PANIC!

Devons Daddy

so what do we think then board.?

for me im looking forward to it. but will be bitterly dissapointed if they fail, but i am also going to enjou  introducing my seven year old to the world  douglas adams created.

i like to think there will be enough of the origanl to make him want to read the book for himself.

of course the tue answer to this question is as we all know.
