Off Topic / irrational hatred part 2
13 September, 2005, 01:32:57 AM
a thread as good as "irrational hatred " should never be allowed to die.

this evening, i will mostly be:
a) hating my lot in life
b) HATING windows media player...RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRA!!!
how thick is it ?  its like here is a music folder , here is the play button, please play the music, No i do not want it synchronised with some radio station in alpha centuri, i do not want it to anaylse the playlists of the archbishop of canterbury in 1973, i want it to PLAY music. yes thats "PLAY the FCUKING MUSIC, any music !"
can i plug in my camera & down load photos while listening to music? no, it wants to download my library onto the camera. i have to shut off the music  & deprive my brain of guitar if i want to see pictures.
and as for the hassals i'm having burning discs, Do NOT get me started ! it would be quicker opening up the laptop & manually pulling out the tracks with a pair of tweezers. fancy arsed useless techy shite.

GRRRRRRRRRARARRGHGGHGHEEE ! ( bastards )

stressed & depressed Bou.

er.....

today i saw charlie & the chocolate factory, it rocked, i'll let them off with the up-date cos jonny depp was so brilliant, & tim burtons wierdness was spot on. couldve been nastier i suppose, squirrels & dancing oompaloopas were great.

This weekend i spent 24hours in a mini bus... yes my dad's a slow driver who doesnt believe in taking the direct route to linconshire for a family wedding.  This meant i caught up with over two months thrills ( i laugh in the face of travel sickness ),  the progs have been AWESOME ! !:
i actually enjoyed the ending of slaine.
the vienna story was brilliant, loved artwork also.
loved the highland cabbalistics.
avatar was deliciously gorgeious to look at.
Shakara was flinttastic genius, loved the green cross eyed assassin bloke.
all that carnage & piles of bodies & universe cancers & handsome assasins was a bit much in one sitting, but wooooo eeee, great stuff.

now 5 megs to catch up with.....

i havent been back to maternal homeland in 19 years, shocked to realise that engerlandshire has some really nice features, like the flowers & trees, and warmth & lack of midges, i mean WTF!? there was sweet chestnut & walnut trees, more sloe berries than ye could brew, poppies, teasles, pretty pretty things, why the feck did our ancestors ( my parents ?)  ever bother migrating to the cal-hab sterile bog lands? if humans were evolved to live here we'd have gills & no frontal lobes. bah. wish i had the bloody equity to escape this hell hole, houses doon there seem to be going for half a mill, gibber, eh?. i crave the flowers & trees of my childood.

anywey, its very odd socialising with people who look like you & share your genes & yet you don't know. cool.  and i definately approve of a wedding were the reception is go-Karting, and yes i was the fastest woman, & fastest of all our party. i definately have adrenalin rush/danger issues.

so thats the latest bou-museings, looking forward to next excuse to escape home & head to civilization. dreading back to work tomorrow.

Help! / avast me harties, techy querie.
22 July, 2005, 10:28:48 PM
arrrr.

i needed some new software, hypothetically speaking something like say a well known system that wasnt lotus smart suite..

and i bought an uncannily cheap disc from ebay. And it wouldnt install cos one file was corrupted, so i downloaded a fresh version of that particular file...from say, a friend, just on loan like, totally above board...  well anywey i still can't install the thing,

Ive put all the files into a folder & tried to set up from there, is there some installing software jiggery pokkery i should understand?
is it easier to try download the whole shebang, from ..my mate...should it install ok?
or do i hold out for a fresh disc from Mr ebay?

i need to get up to speed with not-lotus asap for IT skills needed in new jobbie application.

Arrrrrr. coff.

Off Topic / live8 & the march in Edinburgh
03 July, 2005, 01:08:31 AM
no doubt ive missed empassioned debates previously which concluded on some cynical post-ironic note. But stuff that.

My eldest daughter is down in Edinburgh, i couldnt make it. She phoned earlier in overwhelmed excited  tears, i could barely hear her from the cheers & crowd noise. I am SO proud of her for choosing to join in, make a stand, argue against cyisism & apathy, being part of something, joining in & being part of history. Frankly given circumstances, i'm proud of her for getting out of bed in the mornings.

Those G8 leaders better fecking listion to the millions or they'll have this emotional mother to deal with.

vive la revolution of heart & soul.

Off Topic / Bou catching up hello type post
02 July, 2005, 02:27:56 AM
HELLO ALL !!!

and no i havent been lurking, who are you ? where am i ...what is this comic of which you speak ?
and how the devil are you all ?

sooooo, hope to have some board time this w/e see what nonsense is going on.

i still havent caught up with prog reading, i'm at around 1340...or whatever.

what have i been up to ?

1) dealing with a crisis which was not as bad as a family bereavment, but like it, and about 100 on the traumatic scale. Incredibly, we've coped, my pysche must have a titanium reinforced roll cage, but family needs come before my emotions...but it aint over yet, theres a trial to get thru.

2)i hung out with the 'Time team' politely declined champagne from Tony Robinson in favor of beer, couldnt make the dig til the last day, it rocked !  me n mini-Bou smiling in final shot. failed to convince exec' producer to fund my siberia trip...yet,
decided i wanna work in co-ordination of outside broadcasting.

3) took my lovely long sufferin daughters & others to REM at loch lomond, feeder, ambulance on tv, zutons, aberfeldy, mini-bous first gig, she managed the mosh pit no bother, boozed bottlenecks, crush, choas, age 12. decided i'm still in love with stipey & wanna be a roadie. danced, sang , moshed, shouted , cried.
stayed at West highland animation studio, middle of no-where, in a 'barn' in thunderstorm. my tiny 1.2cc car made the hundreds of miles with 5 people & bags.

4) got my first comic script on paper, it rocks.

5) met charlie Boorman of round world on motorbike with ewan macgregor fame last night, at a talk, he rocks, we chatted about ted simon, he drooled at my tatts, me & pal then rode bike hour journey back in thunder & rain, slower than the 150mph we went in the dry weather. decided i need to pass my bike test.

6) made it up the highest road in britain, the 'bealach na ba' on my totty wee 125cc, a major milestone to me, hairpins, heavy tourist traffic, overheating bike. Woo Hoo !!  decided i need a better bike.

7) lost another friend my age to cancer.

8) another friend got divorced, negotiated & counselled another WW3

9)Won't be G8 marchin cos i'm going to a far loch in skye with my hallowene death buddies ashes tomorrow.

10) loads of work stuff, if been put up for shop assistant of the year ( tho technically i'm manager ), i think its a saint-hood i deserve... or straight jacket. i decided to give it another year or so, then see...

11)ive caught up with house, garden , art projects.

12) and lots of stuff. a new chapter of life has definately begun, in a shit way, but thats the way it is, no looking back.

so thats some of my list.

and i'll see yous at dredd-con & moniaive, gruds willing.

luv vik/bou. x

of topic indulgence;

shortly after typing 'life is great ' or life can't get much better or whatever i said...

it suddenly got very very seriously bad. i shouldnt have gone to bristol, should have stayed here.  its about to get heaps worse. i fear the very worse.

so gies a hug & hold onto the relaxed happy Bou you met at the weekend, in the hope that one day all the baddness will go away. & fingers crossed me n mine  can stay strong in the meantime.

General / huge comic collections...why ?
23 April, 2005, 04:56:06 AM
i wonder, we've talked a lot about who does & who doesnt collect progs, what theyre value is & "NO NO NO !! you can't sell them !! "

imagine, collecting something for 20 years, at what point do you let go? should one haul 25+> boxes around every fecking house move for eternity?  what is the value of paying a little off a debt crisis versus the unreplaceable sentimental hoarders value of all those boxes?

has anyone out their flogged/parted with a 20 year collection & Not regretted it , which is different to 'losing' the collection due to circumstances beyond control ie mums, exes, fire, flood, famine,   altho ...actually famine comes into it.. as well as being SIck of clutter.

what is it about the type of personality which enjoys sci-fi, fantasy, comix & also is obbsessively hoardery?  does escapism go hand in hand with scruffy anal retentivism ?

if someone offered me enough to clear my debt would i take it ?  i certainly don't fancy moving house again with that lot now ive only got a nissan micra, thats 6 trips just for the comix.

Off Topic / off topic greetings from estranged Bou
06 April, 2005, 03:24:30 AM
hello chapps & chappettes & new peoples.
been away too long, not read enough comix & even missed #2 Dr who, bah !

just a quick wave to touch base, havent been lurking or lenting, just trapped in the bad storylines of my soap life.
finally got time to book bristol & couldnt afford the cool hotel, so i'll be bouie no mates as per usual down the road.
climbed a mountain.
shut me shop & got rid of stock.
had lots of fights.
became a real proper retained firefighter as of the 1st. proper rotas & everything.
oh yeah and i got a nasty bite off a seagull today.

hope all settles down soon & i can pop in to talk 2K, failing that i'll see yous at bristol. dazed, confused & a little unsure of my own name.

now i'm off to get pissed & hide from psychotic crazy back stabbing bunny boiling people.

Off Topic / techy arghhh! help required
22 March, 2005, 04:30:23 AM
i wanted a printer, & bought a space ship. epson stylus photo rx620 , its taken some installing, its decided that today ( yesterday was fine ) it won't print from  adobe photo delux which is the thick persons image tweeking thing.
what i like about photo delux is its simplicity & what i wasnt today NOW, is its option for 'tiled' printing, 6 images instead of one in the middle of page.
ive struggled with grown up photoshop help, but can't seem to find such a simple tiled printing option, yeah theres 'create a kaledescope tiled backround in the medium of quantum physics' but i want to bloody print 6 pictures at once,...

arghhh i'm sick of superfluos bloody software overriding each other & clogging up the system !

General / rocks, sucks & shite...
15 March, 2005, 01:32:43 AM
In bed with nasty bug ( que image of giant alien ant ) i have just digested over a months worth of thrills..

theres a theme in the letters pages, whingeing about the lack of long winded essays expressing personal opinions, in long words on this here board. i nearly ranted, at length, using ten words when two will do... along the lines of life being short & the time & place for verbosity being; to pass exams, impress bank managers & prospective employers, & to secure grant funding...also weaving in the point that, i'm a comic fan not a classical literature student.

"wagners judicious use of the semi colon after the initial expression of "Drokk!" emphasises the underlying metaphor of the exploration of themes apertaining to the responsibility of self determinism verses existantialism"

but i was too preoccupied with my bad bug ( que image of giant alien ant twiddling moustash menacingly )..to bother ranting.

so what in recent progs & megs, was shite, sucks or rocks for you ?

tiger moon = ROCKS! ( que sounds of cheering )
nothing SUCKS !  ( que more cheering )

yeah yeah i know, i'd promised myself not to do it, bt i havent had time to read me prog in three weeks & the thrill levels have suck to off-topic indulgent me me me crap.

birthdays are shit. i don't care about the age -39- but i do worry about the diminishing time left, & the fact that the older i get i'm turning into a bloody robot, i only get emotional at hogmanay & birthday.

having to close down your business is shit, especially on your birthday. ive got two weeks to make shit loads of pots & gutt MY building, putting all stock & equipment back into fecking boxes, again. I'm renting the building for 2 peanuts & some navel fluff. if i save the money for 4 years i'll have enough to build a shed to store my boxes in.

the good news is that 20 years ago i prophesised that i would die at 38  .....  i didnt.

the good news is that i'm going to be free to draw, & paint, & playyyyy & do a billion exiting things.

and despite me not reminding anyone about me birthday, today like, my kids remembered, and i came home from the wholesalers ( happy joy joy ) to find my workmates had delivered a huge bunch o flowers & a new wheel barra to me house ..Awwwwwww!!!!!  ( remember there are no flower shops for 76 miles ).

so all those who have built up their own business, & hand built the premesis, themselves, & then lost it, join me in the bittersweet pangs of dashed dreams & learning how to 'let go' .

love vik.

i like stories that are 'smaller' and more down to earth... what i mean is i liked durham red more when she was a bounty hunter vampire laydee, once she became a saint with the power to destroy humanity, it just got silly.

when whole universes & infinite powers are involved i quickly loose intrest. tyranny rex tended to just get silly.
judge dredd mega-epics with sisters of death supervillans & uncountable body counts, are silly, and dull, a bunch of terrorists & some nukes is much more exiting.
synomon thingy doing whatever it was she was doing on such a ..... shit i can't even remember what happened in the story anyway, but i'd rather see a bunch of kids play slam ball.
anderson saving the universe against all encompassing evil, is boring, her using psi-powers to track down a perp is interesting.
If cabbs team start saving the universe instead of dealing with dodgy demons...

so i guess i like plots & characters that i can relate to more, or is it that once a story encompasses some huge concept, that it becomes unweildly & the creator has no-where else to go ?

the quality rests in the detail.
what say yous.
