General / Re: It's a Droids Life: Rob Willia...

Hi, I have a question about 10 secs.  I think you have great ideas about alternate superhero stories, Cla$$war was fantastic, and now 10 seconders.  But the first series seemed a little rushed, while the second seemed a little long, and as many people pointed out, a little confusing at points.  With hindsight, would you go back and change any of the story, or characters even; for example bring them in earlier or left them out altogether?  Are writers as self critical as the fans??
Thanks.
Jon
p.s. For what my opinion is worth I thought 10 seconders was great, and it will read much better as a graphic I think.

Ok, not quite my last thought, but I have to answer Krom:
"And below par is going to involve 10 seconders, is it not?
There's Rob Morrison on the other thread to ask what went wrong, if you can with a civil approach".

I did actually if you want to read through the thread, I asked the question is Rob as self critical as the fans and would he have done anything different in hindsight on 10seconders, and I did put in my own little gripe with it as constructive criticism is the key word nowadays.  Rob answered with some good points on how he would have done it differently, top bloke and a good way to gain fan support.

p.s. and 10 seconders was the only reason I bought 2k the past few weeks, bring on the 3rd volume!

My last thought on the matter,
After the last few issues did Matt go to the creators and say that they are on thin ice and threaten to shut down 2000ad??  Not quite the same thing I know, as they are not using (abusive??) language, but no reason why readers have to put up with below par issues, especially when we know what it's capable of!!

Can Matt get rid off the board at any moment? And the answer is yes. Yes he can.

Do you think he's going to though??  The people on this board represent the hard core audience of 2000ad; most of the subscribers probably feature on the posts at some point or other. Would you risk alienating the sense of community this board represents and lose some (or more than already seem to have jumped ship) core readership??
Somehow I don't think so.  Blowing smoke me thinks.

How would you know if it was rubbish or not if you didn't buy it?

Surely not everyone buys each issue on blind faith?  I have a quick flick through in the comic shop or WH Smiths and if it seems to be good I buy it.  You wouldn't buy a house or a car without a peak first, or even go see a film without reading a review; why should a comic be any different?  If less people buy the issue when it is rubbish, or more people pick it up when a paricular issue is good, it speaks volumes louder than anyone proclaiming it's bollox on a message board and getting reprimanded for it.  Would artists/ writers then go and complain that people are not liking their product??  I don't think so, they would more than likely work harder to keep themselves in employment.  That is part of everyday working life that me, and I am guessing most others, have to put up with in order to be able to afford the comics, graphic novels and whatever other product, good or bad, Rebellion want us to buy.
Jon
p.s. and Bad 'I'm a serious business journalist' Andy, I don't think publishing 'Trainspotters weekly' qualifies???  hehe...

Or maybe instead of posting negative remarks about the issue, don't buy it!  I'm sure that would send a larger message than swearing and complaining and keep all posters happy.

Is this not deflecting away the fact that the last issue was a bit rubbish.  Sure the criticism could have been articulated a little better, and the response shouldn't have been a threat to take down the board or such, that's playground chest puffing.   Why not take the reviews as a form of feedback and do something about it?  Similarly, why not address the issue of bad issues in a more constructive manner (although Bollox is a fair point, crude but expressive)? The simple fact is to put out a good issue and the creators can bask in the glowing praise that comes with it!

'second page - Superman is releasing his sun eater...I only spotted this because I looked back at issue two where you get a brief look at it when he shows it off to Lois at the Fortress of Solitude'

he does mention it later on in the comic when he is speaking to lois.
all star supes is the best comic out there, zibarro is a classic!!!
