Enjoyed Target JD for the most part, although the Jonni Kiss stuff felt flat and drawn out script-wise. Stan Lee will always have a place in Dredd history for besting the lawman, Hitman was a great follow-up to Oz and Missing was quality all the way. Given recent comments, I liked the Millar story more than I thought I would, with the moon projection making me laugh out loud. Maybe he's best taken in small doses.

Oh yes, forgot about that. Devlin's the only character who should have emerged from the future Vatican.

I think Purgatory/Inferno was their only long-form story so probably just that. I had however forgotten that Grice appeared in Nightmares before I re-read it last week.

Devil's a great character. I did enjoy Brief Encounter when he winds Dredd up no end. Looking forward to Chasing Herod, yet another completely new one for me.

Just finished the Simping Detective. This was all new to me and I thought Jack Point was a brilliant creation, excellent work by all including the late great Tom Frame. Enjoyed the DeMarco stories too, particularly the character of Travis Perkins. The Pit is coming up, hopefully The Scorpion Dance is too for more of DeMarco's story arc.

So a quarter of the way through the collection, and it's been pretty bang on so far. I've found it's showcased really well the variety of stories, characters and artwork that have contributed to Dredd's world over the years. I think the general consensus is that the one volume that didn't really work is The Heavy Mob - maybe, as I said somewhere earlier on this thread, if Father Earth had appeared first in that issue it might have given it a bit more context. The other volumes with common themes, Democracy Now and Alien Nations, both worked really well. Especially Howler, genius.

Can't wait for Trifecta now....

I agree with that last part: some detective work on bridging some of the gaps with (so far) unprinted stories and trying to guess whether they'll appear is half the fun.

Block Mania and Father Earth both have episodes by Ron. And there's The Day the Law Died, Judge Child and City of the Dawned to come. I'm hoping Nosferatu will appear but would that have been included in Alien Nations?

Some thoughts on having read and digested all four parts.

The artwork is incredible. A true nightmarish vision of a world created from destruction.

The scripts fascinated me, getting into the psychology of these once-human creatures. The balance of humour amongst the horror was just right, and the final episode brought it all together with Death's clarity of twisted purpose.

I'll be interested to see if the redesigned Mortis is used in any future stories.

My only criticism is to echo the previous comments on difficulty with distinguishing some of the lettering.

All in all, a dark masterpiece. Bravo.

Total War is the next issue to be released in the UK, due on 30th September.

Hopefully the printing issues were just a glitch on the last run. Personally I've been satisfied with the print quality so far.

Thanks for the notification on Trifecta. My years in the wilderness mean I've never read it before, just plenty about it on here and elsewhere, so the surprise element is gone, but looking forward to reading it and hopefully understanding some of the rug-pulling from the original publication. Thoughts to follow.

On the subject of print quality, the Story So Far page is impossible to read but I'm not too worried about that.

The concluding piece by Molch-R mentions Trifecta, does anyone know if this will be in a forthcoming volume?

Neither of those you mention have appeared yet, we've had The Cursed Earth and Apocalypse War, both fully black & white. Next earlier story is The Dead Man in issue 21, can't wait to read that again, John Ridgway's art is brilliantly atmospheric.
