Messages - Diminished Responsibility

#16
The flaw of the JD95 sets (for me anyway) was they didn't look real, ever.  It looks far closer to Total Recalls sets than Bladerunner.

Bladerunner had barely a scene that took you out of the movie, whereas Recall looked fake from start to finish.

If I wasn't such a fan of the source material, I might have been able to enjoy Judge Dredd 95 in the same way I enjoyed Total Recall, being a fan has its downsides eh? lol

Anyway, I knew I wasn't getting Bladerunner the moment Stallone became attached, he hadn't done anything that wasn't a clichéd actioner since First Blood.

Slightly suprised that somebody hasnt done a tarted up special edition for this, now that the new film is coming out.

I don't think Disney believe it's worth the money and effort to go back there.

I doubt they're the only ones.

I honestly can't say there is anything I like about that film. maybe the robot Schneider crawls into, but only because it got him out of sight for a few minutes.

Mean Machine looked the part I guess, as did Hammerstein, but he shouldn't have even been there.

Here's my DREDD-inspired piece of art, as seen on the art thread (it's been through a few more tweaks since then, though):

Those lawmasters, from 'meh' to rather iconic dontchya think?

That's not Dredd, that first picture looks like Captain America crossed with a gimp suit. The end result was no where near as bad as that was it?!

Yeah, turning the leg would have made it so much better... Always next time...

Also looks like he's smiling, from that angle ;)

Yeah it's a great poster based on a classic pose. I took a similar one for the Planet Replicas shoot, but wasn't quite happy with the pose looking back on it so it never got used.

If Dredd's left knee had leaned ever so slightly further out that shot would be perfect! I've seen a lot of pictures of the planet Replicas suits in action, but I really like the detail I can see here, the boots are mint!

Carlisle Vue, there will be a mob of us 40 somethings. First time we'll all be at a premiere showing since Starship troopers.

I'm curious to know what Rebellion are developing, they're last title (Sniper Elite II?) is out and I don't see any projects being shown. they're also recruiting atm.

QuoteA new Dredd Pinball Machine

Thats actually a brilliant idea!!

Marvel have released one for PS3 and Xbox that has tables for Wolverine, Iron Man, Blade and Spiderman (with more available as DLC)

A 2000AD one with Dredd, Rogue Trooper, ABC Warriors, Slaine, Nemesis, Ace Trucking.... WoW!! I'd buy the shit out of that!

If DREDD is successful I hope it is used as a platform to launch other titles, specifically a PG-13 film or two, 2000AD doesn't need more adults coming from hard R movies, it needs more kids.

When I was growing up in the 80s pretty much all the kids I hung out with knew of 2000AD, I've worked with kids a lot and I don't remember a single one knowing of Dredd beyond the 95 movie, a good PG-13 could change that.

(My preference would be Sam Raimi to do Robo-Hunter, with Bruce "the chin" Campbell in the main role! haha!)

But seriously, Robo-Hunter and Ro-Busters are really good products that could bring many young people to 2000AD (and not forgetting merchandising!!!).  These characters and worlds are far superior to films like Transformers.

And if they got a hit with something like Ro-Busters... ABC Warriors for a sequel?

MMORPG - NO, NEVER! I wouldn't want to saddle Rebellion with the monstrous cost of one of those things. Those things are a curse.

TBH unless Rebellion started development around the time DREDD went into production, there's no chance of a DREDD game for this movie. My guess would be that they wait and see, and if DREDD gets picked up for a sequel Rebellion may develop a tie in game.

QuoteYes and no.

No, in the sense that pretty much no one remembered and brought up the previous Lundgren effort, and those that did, were under no illusion that the Lundgren movie was somehow a worthwhile Punisher movie.

Yes, in the sense that he was being compared directly to Frank Castle of the comics - and him being short, ginger and skinny (which he was when announced) didn't sit right with pretty much anyone.

There were however a minority who defended his casting, based on his perfomance in Thursday and Stander.
I know, because I was in that minority. Boy do I regret the time spent on that, as it turned out the movie stunk and Jane was okay at best. But it did teach me valuable lesson about blind fanboy optimism.

There was also a bit of beef on Thomas Janes comic website when War Zone was announced, a bit of vitriol against the re-casting caused a stir in the forums and some Ray Stevenson fans were a bit put out :)

QuoteActually 2 pilots and 3 seasons of the original, plus appearances in 2 seasons of Next Generation, and his 7 Trek films. 1966-2009.  That's 43 years as the same character.  Madness.

Is it any wonder he's typecast? ;)
