Grand Halls of Justice.

To: H Volt.

Psi Division  202O,  4th Quarter Report.
Ref: 12A/54.

In the late fall of 2120, a number of grade 4 psi telepaths experienced strange, unsettling premonitions.  All were consistent in their description, sensing a strange alien presence seeking to destroy the very heart of Mega City One.

On further study, no telepath could elaborate on their findings. None could explain what form the creature took, or when it may appear.

The premonitions were later discounted as random psi blips; the term used to describe unsubstantiated psi predictions.

Psi Risk evaluation:
Negligible.

Aw, hell, can't we have a scojo script warning?  I naively thought this might be something other than a trailer for Message Board Meltdown 2.

John Caliber

Afternoon Scojo,

After working on Justice Department material for the JDRPG, I can inform you you that the highest security rating is 'Atomic 4'. There are no Grade 4 psi-judges - Grade 3 is the lowest, 1 the highest.

Hope that helps,

The probelm is john, and I'm not trying to be bolshi here, but a lot of people are a bit dubious about this new Judge Dredd background.

The thought that some material written by non Dredd writers for a RPG becomes official Dredd material that will feature in the strip isn't something I'm entirely happy with.

For the game, great, but beyond that... er, a bit dodgy.

John Caliber

Since Rebellion has vetted the RPG material, it then becomes official, but don't think that we can write anything we want - Rebellion are very strict about certain subjects, particularly world history. We can't create any source material concerning the early years of the mega-cities other than basic details about the creation of the judges.

Think of the JDRPG material in the same vein as the West End Games Star Wars RPG work - it becaome official and was then used by every other writer, including George Lucas. The Mongoose creations are designed to enhance the Dredd eperience, not to inhibit it...

Still, if you don't like it, ignore it, just as you might ignore works by non-Wagner scribes. I am informed, however, that the 30 round Lawgiver capacity has become official canon.

I've just e-mailed Matthew Sprange of Mongoose Publishing for a ruling on whether the RPG stuff is to be considered canon. It's best to get this matter sorted before a flood of RPG materials hits the shelves... :)

I agree that your script postings should carry some form of Health Warning.

Please, Scojo, limit yourself to a single:

"My script has now been posted, please make any comments on this thread.  I will take them on board in the spirit of support in which they were posted." posting and save us hours of misery.

Not all of us have opted to use the kill file on you but another debacle like the last script posting might tip people over the edge.
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

Hi guys,

You are worrying way too much :)  It is true that it is in the nature of RPGs to super-detail settings to an amazing degree, often far beyond the original source material.  For JD, however, things are a little different because there is so _much_ source material. We have a long way to go before we even need to consider inventing things wholesale.

We will be altering absolutely nothing that has gone before.  Where we have met contradictions, we have picked one route and stuck with it.  Added to that, everything (and I mean everything) is run past Rebellion first.  Will we create new material?  Sure, but it is going to be minor - the rulebook has a few new ground cars and the like you have not seen before.  We have named a few hoverboards.  Listed one of the manufacturers of spit guns.  All really tiny stuff that adds a lot to an RPG and is drawn, logically, from existing source material.

As to whether it is to be regarded as 'canon' that is, in a way, up to you as the fans.  If, however, you mean to ask whether any of what we do will be used in the comic strips (rather than the other way around), well that is up to the guys at 2000AD.  Mega-City One is a gigantic place, however, and I think there is room enough for everyone's ideas.  Most of our scenario material, for example, is based around Sector 190.  In that place, all the street judges have Mk II Lawgivers - but that need not be the case everywhere in MC1. . .

As long as it doesn't go the way of the Star Wars and Star Trek book franchises. Talk about milking the product.

Better set your phaser to stun.

Well, we thought it would make a humerous change from you turning every other thread you visit into a scojo script thread with your perverse midas touch.

Cheers :)
