2000AD Online

I felt that a gentle reminder to all of our overseas readers was in order, bearing in mind the mild festive panic engulfing the world to purchase gifts, wrapping paper and the like.

Wednesday 19th December 2007 is the date when 2000 AD leaps into the future of global comic-book enjoyment when it becomes the first sci-fi comic in the world to be available weekly in both print and online versions. The lucky readers in the UK have long had their Thrill-Power hit within their printed prog every week without fail, but it is you, our friends across the world, who have had to endure higher shipping costs and a longer wait. Well, no more.

In just seven daysâ?? time, you will be able to download the Galaxyâ??s Greatest Comic direct to your computer just one week after the printed version has hit UK stores, and being a download itâ??ll be quicker, more topical, more adaptable (youâ??ll even be able to view it on your Apple iPod) and, best of all, considerably cheaper. However, if you still enjoy the feel of a warm prog in your hands, you will still be able to receive the printed version as normal. It just wonâ??t be as quick and easy.

Join us in the latest step towards global domination. Next Wednesday, go to www.clickwheel.net or follow the links to the download page from www.2000ADonline.com and embrace the future!

Bring it, this Yank is very interested in seeing this work out for the best. Because getting my thrillpower one week latter instead of one month latter (and actually weekly to boot) would  be the greatest thing EVER.

Though I may still buy print copies for the rest of the year, just to hedge my bets.

Also, I will continue to by Rebellion TPs as though they are going out of style. For posterity

excellent. It's not clear if this is in addition to the subscription, or instead of it.  I mean, if I want to keep getting my paper progs AND get the online version, do I have to pay more money?

critter

It says its cheaper than the paper version, for us foreigners. But it doesn't actually say how much. Last time I bought a prog its was $3.75USD. The local comic shop closed in March so this is a great way for me to get new doses of Thrill Power. Though I do still look at eBay for past issues.

Buddy

What is the cost?

Keeping in mind that I can read it for free in Easons I'm interested to know how much this service will cost.

"if I want to keep getting my paper progs AND get the online version, do I have to pay more money?"

If you buy a CD and then download it off of iTunes, you pay twice. I can't see this being any different, unless Tharg becomes Tharg the Extremely Benevolent.

opaque

But it doesn't actually say, thats the thing.

Mind you this is a good thing for when I'm on holiday in the US next year and want to keep up :)

Shakara

...but that's sacrilege ain't it...I want the papery paper things with all the paper inside it

I realise it'll be a billion times more easy to distribute - but there's something about going on holiday and having some sod go and buy it for you while your away and have it there on yer desk when you get back

...and then those priceless wonderings on how that sod got in to put it on the desk

well I'm out if its not available at my local News agents, the line about it not being as quick and easy to get the paper version worries me.  I've got no problem waiting 8 weeks for a prog(what I do now) but I dont want to subscribe and I'm not paying what a specialist shop expects me to pay down here($10A compared to $6A at the newsies) + its a 700KM drive to get it.  Please please please let me know its still being distributed in OZ the same way it always has.

Are you getting it through Diamond? Because as long as there is a print Prog, I'm sure it'll always be there to order through your local comic shop.

And it sounds like your the perfect example to why this is a good thing. I mean, $10A?! Jesus Christ dude, I though my US$4.10 was terrible.

Adventurer - As I said my nearest Comic shop is 700KM's away bit far to go for my weekly and yep its about $9.90Australian from the comic shop. But for as long as I've been collecting (and for as long as I can remember seeing it on the shelves) its been available at our News agencies all through Australia just on the shelves next to Mainstream Marvel & DC titles(Xmen, Batman and the likes) at half the price, admitedly it's about 8 weeks behind as it comes via ship rather than Air but its only about $6 instead and its here every week never missing an issue(well about 3 or so in the last 10 years).
My main problem with this is I only have a puter at work so E-copies are no good to me at all damn all this new technology.

Bad Andy

When I was at Ayer's Rock last month (and I didn't see any sign of Judda) the expensive and limited newsagents at the Ayer's Rock Resort had the Ro-Buster's Extreme Edition amongst all its DC, Marvel and Simpsons comics.

In fact I never saw Tooth or the Meg in shops in Oz, just the same Extreme Edition.

Albion

Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

I want to get onboard with this, but I'm not that impressed with clickwheel so far.

My main problem with the comics I've looked at so far is that the resolution isn't high enough. When you  click on fit width in Adobe, the image is blurry. Also, .cbr files that I can view in Comic Book Reader would be nice. Comic Book Reader is by far the best way to read comics online.

Hopefully they can fix these things and I can subscribe.

The Adventurer

High Resolution is something I definitly want out of this. If the images are compressed to much I'll be very disappointed.
