Is there anywhere out there a complete list of what was produced strip wise for the Daily Star? e.g. dates of printing, stories (later strips) who drew what etc etc etc.

Leigh S

Theres as complete a list as possible on this site - go to Dredds character profile.  Theres a gap where I wasnt buying the stuff between '94-'96 - about 13 stories all told.  Theres also about 30 of the Saturday strips that havent surfaced anywhere yet...

I thought that the Daily Star strips had all been reprinted until I started seeing the drips and drabs appearing in the Megazine. Just how much has never seen the light of day beyond the newspapers, and will it ever all get reprinted? I'd certainly be up for a few pages of 'unseen' Daily Star reprint in the Megazine.

Watcher, have you tried asking the Daily Star?

They'll have an archive, and they'll probably be good enough to let you photocopy what you're missing if you go to their offices.

I'm sure the archives department will be happy to talk to you if you just give them a call and explain that you're a fan.

Just FYI - and this is hot off the Presses...

There's an ongoing controversy over photocopying rights for various types of publication.
Basically, you can't do it without express permission, which is a pain in the arse if you just want to fax somebody some info or something.

However, just last week the Newspaper Licensing Agency agreed that newspapers can be photocopied, as long as it's a small number of copies.

So there's no legal reason why you can't get the Star or a library to give you a copy of the DSDs you're missing.

I've definitely considered going down to the library to see if they have a full set - there are about 30 or so gaps in the one-offs that have yet to be reprinted - it's often difficult to tell which weeks are missing, as they werent always numbered (or numbered correctly).

I had held back when I was told at the first and subsequent Dreddcons that Rebellion had gone and got themselves copies and assumed that something was afoot.  Strangely, the reprints in the meg have only been ones that Wake has got hold of the original art for, so I wonder if Rebellion ever did get hold of them?

Next time off I have , I may go down to Central library - I could at least get the titles and art credits for the missing daily multi-parters I suppose

Legally, you're not allowed to photocopy any part of any publication without the author's permission.

In my darker days I used to work as a graphic designer at one of the Prontaprint branches where this measure was taken very seriously because the branch that did such copies would be fined somethin glike ?3000 per image for breach of copyright. Hidden 'Watermarks' on Canon colour photocopiers revealed if copies had been made, right down to the specific machine and location of...

It caused a few verbal fights between customers who came in for colour photocopies [students wanting pics to make montages for art class, folk wanting copies of family photographs, etc] and the embarrassed staff, since Prontaprint seemed to be the only place where this copyright law was actually being enforced!

Bizarrely, the management used to let me make b/w and colour copies of copyrighted material for my fanzines with no bother.

Indeed, John is correct on the law.

However, newspapers have expressly suspended their rights for now, in the interests of such issues as research and the fact they're never going to chase anyone for it anyway.
