Best quote: "I can crosshatch like a motherfucker"

Adrian Bamforth

There was a really good series on BBC4 recently, Cartoonists On The Front Line in which Portillo goes round interviewing cartoonists including Steve Bell. Portillo admitted himself he was a characaturist's dream.

They're always repeating stuff on BBC 4 so probably a good idea to keep a look out if you're a fan.

Heh. I really enjoyed the "Crumb Week" the Grauniad ran the other week, and I'm a big Bell fan so I'll have to check this out.

I'm slowly building up my collection of Bell compilations, but I'd really like a book of his larger-scale illos. There've been some great ones over the years, and it'd be nice to see them collected in a single volume (rather than in piles of clippings, like my collection :-) )

Cool! Great to see these cartoonists/satirists/social commentators yadda yadaa.. being treateed with respect by The Guardian and The BBC

Perhaps the Greeks should take note! Look at this mentalness..

We had Mr. Bell in to do a talk at work a little while ago. I got a nice big colour pic of his from the last General Election - very nice!

I've been looking for Steve Bell fans for a while, because I have scans of a few If... strips that were never reproduced anywhere. Back in 1989 when the poll tax was introduced in Scotland, Bell did two strips in the style of The Broons, a popular scottish comic strip. Unfortunately the publishers of The Broons took legal action against him, and so they have never been reprinted.

Here are the links. I hope you enjoy them

Glad you like them. I can't find these strips anywhere else on the net, and it occured to me that I may be one of a very few people to actually still have copies. Which is nice. But better if they were accessible to everyone.

Here's another bit of Steve Bell art; this one's an original. It's Santa in the off season.http://www.nibleys.com/images/Steve-Bell-original2.gif">

These are great! Can I ask hopw you got hold of them?

Love Paw Broons' "Ikikik" reaction!

I cut them out of the paper when they were first published. When they were injuncted I thought that I should save them. I only recently rediscovered them in some old papers. The piece of original art was when he was doing book signings about 10 years ago, and also selling on the spot artworks.

So there you go.

I'm living in the U.S. now and I can't get my daily fix of If... because it isn't available online. It's quite sad.
