You thought we had bad reviews:

the truth is that it's utter trash from quite literally the first frame to the last.

That review is bullshit from the get go because this film is at pains to depict the human consequences of violence on the people who commit it and are ended by it. It's quite like the America arc in that regard.

Exactly right. Most films just gloss over it but this does the opposite. Not only that, almost all the 'bad guys' are portayed as individuals not 'faceless' enemies who are cannon fodder, which makes the impact even stronger.

And Ma Ma is a suicidal product of violence.

And we meet a widower and her child.

And we see a teenager chasing a hot get blasted in the face.

And we see a whole bunch of blameless corpses.

And Anderson loses her humanity disturbingly quickly.

And and and

I think the reviewers coming down from a bad batch of skittles or maybe just after Tookies job???
loveforstitch - Does he fall in love? I like a little romance in all my movies.

Rekaert - Yes, he demonstrates it with bullets, punches and sentencing.

He's Mega City 1's own Don Juan.

Newsarama Best Shots Review - 5 out of 10

Some fair criticism in there, to be honest. I think the film is better than this reviewer gives it credit for but the action scenes were very much a weak point in Dredd. As I mentioned in my post-screening post, it did at times feel like I was watching somebody else play a computer game.

Still... it's Newsarama. So who cares, right?

Anyone know how Metacritic works?I can't understand how Any of the reviews her could be described as mixed! http://www.metacritic.com/movie/dredd/critic-reviews

The men at C.H.U.D. are always hard to please when it comes to genre but they've taken to DREDD- I see this as a good sign:

The Raid is a Tower Defense story set from the perspective of someone trying to conquer the tower. It's as formula as formula gets and nothing new. The emphasis on Dredd's resemblance to The Raid is irrelevant. The Raid is about seeing amazing choreography and inventive use of the human form as a combat weapon. Dredd is a late 80′s/early 90′s genre film packaged for today's audience. It's the Paul Verhoeven movie Paul Verhoeven never made and dollars to donuts it'll be a more authentic Robocop film than the upcoming remake.
