last years thread https://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=37730.0 (https://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=37730.0) has a fair old discussion about this.

I had a deek earlier this month and there seems to be a fair old number of reasonable places still available without resorting to Percy the parkeeper

I have promised myself that I'm not going to drink as much as last year. I was a complete zombie on the Saturday, lol. I had to jump out of a queue (John Higgins) at the last minute to be sick. It wasn't John's fault. But it was definitely the Jack's fault from the previous night.

Saturday ticket bought. I went last year and it was as hot as hell. The queue for John and Carlos was so long I'm pretty sure Pete Wells was both in front of me and behind me at one point. If John Wagner and Colin MacNeil are going to be there I'm gonna get my copy of America signed (it was Origins last year.) I look forward to seeing my fellow boarders there.

Seriously, when I was at the back of the queue (outside the CCA in the sunshine) he was chatting to John and Carlos and by the time I got to the front I am sure that he was now in the queue behind me. I thought to myself, "Bloody hell! He really likes getting things signed."
Also, I would like to say a gig ta! to the pleasant chap who gave me a blank page from his sketchbook. Being a total Dredd-head it was a joy getting a Dredd sketch from Carlos.

Might have been me*- I remember giving paper out on a couple of occasions- there was a wee girl asked for a sheet and I think someone else did too. On the other hand, it might have been someone else.

*had you said 'scruffy, belligerent looking weirdo' then that was definitely me. Hang on, it was a comic convention... in Glasgow... everyone was scruffy and belligerent looking.

I'm too polite to call anyone scruffy or belligerent.
Whoever it was, I will always give props to anybody that goes out of their way to help out a complete stranger. GCC 2013 was my first ever con experience and I was a wee bit out of my comfort zone so I just looked around for a bit, got stuff signed as mentioned above, went to the Commando panel and then went home. They say it is always easier the second time around so, to all my fellow boarders who are attending this year, if you see a lanky streak of... wearing a "MAKE A DREDD SEQUEL" t-shirt looking uncomfortable then that'll be me. Come and say hello. :D

It is a long shot but I hope that we get similar weather to last year's event, scorchio! Also, the CCA need some kind of proper signposting for the entrance - last year people (aka the stragglers) kept on joining the very long Wagner/Ezquerra signing queue thinking it was the queue to get in.

Latest guest list.

I see a few more names in the list on the top right, Erik Larsen, Leah Moore and John Reppion to name three.
Perhaps they are unconfirmed at the moment.

I was up at the Art School today and noticed that Scott Street is completely closed due to the fire in the Rennie Mackintosh building. This means a slightly longer route to get to the Comic Con/Art School events in the new building. Fine if the weather is like last year, not so good if it's bucketing with rain.

The exhibitor tabs have been filled on the website so you'll know what location the guests will be for signings etc.

I'll be moving amongst the masses clearing a path for the godlike genius that is George 'Dode' Coleman.

Unfortunately there is no one on that list who could add to my Book of Dredd that isn't already in it, unless HOward does a Dredd black kiss?

I'll be coming through a bit later on the Saturday afftie due to domestic arrangements but will be staying the night and doing the full Sunday thang

I'll be going both days.
Might try and pick up a US Marvel edition Star Wars for a Howard Chaykin sig, or just get one of the UK weeklies out of the back of the cupboard.
Thinking of getting the ABC Warriors hardback too for a Bisley sig. Black Hole assault is one ABC strip I've never actually read. (Shame)

P.S. Scott Street is open too so no detour necessary

Pub crawl in the evening ?

I'll be there Sat & Sun. My first con  :o

Have to dig out the old American Flagg!'s and Black Kiss's (along with Satellite Sam's) for Mr Chaykin to sign (as that seems to be the done thing (?!)). Satellite Sam my favourite thing out right now (apart from the obvious). Fraction + Chaykin = bliss.

I'm hoping Simon Bisley is still in as good a mood as he was at Belfast Comic Con. He was really funny, generous and had a lot of time for people.

I'm hoping Colin changes his mind about sketching. The man is a legend!

John Wagner is always a gent, so you never need to worry about him.

I'm looking forward to meeting Rufus Dayglow. I speak with him now and again through Facebook, and he seems a pretty cool dude.

I'd love to get a Dredd sketch by Hannah Berry, just to see her take on it. Plus, I think she's very pretty.  :)

I am going to torture Simon Furman! The man is pure feckin' awesome. His work on Transformers has put a smile on my face so many times over the many years.

I'm covering the Con for Bleeding Cool so any of you mighty forum-ites who are selling their wares should make sure to stop me and give me your info for the article: what you're selling, where to find you online, a quote about how you're finding the Con and, most importantly, a cheesy photo of you holding your comic.

So if you see this dodgy-looking bastard:

and want to be featured in the article just give me a wave or hit me with something and I'll get all the necessary details from you. Alcoholic bribery is deeply, deeply encouraged.  :)

At Glasgow Comic Con this weekend I'll be selling a VERY limited collected edition of my comic No More Heroes. The book contains all four issues and only 50 copies will be available. When they're gone, they're gone.

I'll be at table 74 in the Art School - Creators Hub venue (Saturday only!). So please come visit, say hello and pick one up.

I'm hoping Colin changes his mind about sketching. The man is a legend!

Sorry, the sketching break continues for now. Patience, patience. :)

On the bright (?) side however, I've been having a major clear out of the old art cupboard. A lot of stuff will be stuff few, or no one, has seen before. Some comic related stuff, but lots of old sketches, card art, design work for various things, paintings of all sorts, illustrations, even a sealed copy of the Chopper-Surf City Here We Come T-shirt that Titan did in the early 90's and possibly even a couple of copies of a board game thingy I worked on yonks ago... assuming I can fit them in to the luggage.

As I said, a major clear out.

Anyhoo, see you all at the pub... er, I mean convention. :)

Cheers

My Con experience was pretty much the same as last year: I went. I saw. I went home.

I made the "mistake" of buying two BIG bags of Megazine back issues (Megs 262-284) for £16 quite early on which I then had to humf around for the next five-ish hours.

I got my copy of the America trade signed by Messrs Wagner and MacNeil and I finally got a chance to ask Colin what media he used on America. Believe me when I say that it has bugged me for years.

I was in the presence of Stace and Iz of the Megacast fame but didn't pluck up the courage to introduce myself. I did find myself stifling a giggle on the upper level when Alan Grant was referred to as an "Aging Rockstar."

I went to Wagner & Grant's (how cool is it to type that again?) panel to promote their forthcoming "dirty book." And just by chance I ended up sitting next to the chap who, the previous year, had given me a page from his scrapbook so that I could get a Ezquerra sketch.

I'm pretty sure I was sitting next to a few of my fellow boarders in the bar but since everyone was in the midst of private conversations I didn't want to butt in just in case I made an arse of myself.

All in all, a fun if frustrating day. I hope everyone else had/has a good time.

If I remember correctly it's called Lonesome Truckers In Space. It was originally to be called Randy Truckers In Space. Two scripts are completed but Carlos has still to put pencil to paper due to other work priorities. A "Carry On" theme was bandied about so you can probably guess the tone.

Indeed I did and I have spent a nice sunny Sunday afternoon having a mini Meg Slog. It's been fun reading people complain about the £2 price hike and the quality of the floppy. How times change? One thing I noticed is that there was a greater variety of artists, strips and general features back then. But defenitely worth £16.

+++ Douchebag Update +++
(or: "Wot I Did At My First Comic Con")

Across the weekend, attended 5 panels in all, every one was interesting (and different). Biggest of these was the "Fourth Wall" (https://twitter.com/glasgowcomiccon/status/485788143246118912/photo/1) panel. Brilliant guests, not sure how forensic the subject matter was tackled, but fun (as were they all). Sometimes comics talk directly to the reader, and mostly it's done for comic effect. Job done.

Missed the Lonesome Truckers announcement, spent much longer than anticipated with Howard Chaykin (not my photo) (https://twitter.com/ClaymoreComics/status/485658369559396352/photo/1). After a while I showed him this:

"That's TERRIBLE".
"Well, I did it last night quickly, it's the second thing I've painted. Thought it would be nice to have you sign this too...?"
He pauses, reconsiders. For a full .5 seconds.
"Yeah - it's terrible".
It's a dark moment to discover your heroes think you're a douchebag... :o
However, he did sign it (see above) after prompting, and continued to hold court in the same jaw-dropping manner as previously. Did my requested sketch, chatted a bit more amiably and signed my stuff. Seemed to enjoy himself. That's his schtick. Pete Milligan sitting alongside seemed to get a fraction of the footfall of Mr Chaykin. And since he apparently considers 99% of the people he's ever met as chickenshit douchebags, fair do's. I remain an enormous fan. Oh, and Satellite Sam finishes after #15, apparently.

Spoke to Hannah Berry (http://hannahberry.co.uk/?page_id=27) on day 1, and am under her spell  :) What a talent. Looking forward to reading her first graphic novel (I know it's been out for years...) as it looks fantastic. Her panel was fun (another one) and although I didn't leave it too late to buy her book, she was packing up to leave (as were others). Already running late, she stopped, didn't just sign my copy but drew a sketch (with nice message) and made herself later still. If her graphic novel isn't awful - and I know it won't be - she has a fan for life. What a champ.

A solo mission for me, Her Indoors did agree to come along  and a mate agreed ("for a few hours only") but vacillated over buying his ticket a few times so in the end just me. I don't know how much the non-comics public (the "norms") would get out of it, it's a bit full-on. I wouldn't wish it on them? Even the apparently accessible cosplay (shudder). Sorry not to have caught up with any boarders as it turned out (I hear you 8-Ball). I'm such a douchebag you probably got off lightly.

Met Misters MacNeil and Wagner of course, naturally another first there  :)

I didn't pick up many comics, and that's fine. I have plenty of those and I can see that's not what the Con is about. Perhaps it was the sight of endless racks of Marvel nonsense, pored over by Glaswegians posing as Green Lantern, but I was taken by the old (of course) copies of Action I found. Bought a handful, from '77, they should be entertaining and I do thrill to the aroma of bog paper. I'd have asked Mr Wagner to sign those (it's possible he wrote some/most of it?!) but they'd disintegrate, I fear.

Several things tickled me but I'll leave it there; this post has gone on long enough...!

Well Sunday was a bust as I had to drop out early, but Saturday was a blast.

Got to catch up with the lovely Hannah Berry and listen into Howard Chakin hold court plus see the heart of most cons Iz and The Whittle as they rushed around.

Then to the bar with Satanist, DogDeever, Dode, Proudhuff who were not only friendly and welcoming but also f**kin hilarious company for the evening. Cheers guys it was a serious pleasure.

Read it, it's bloody good. I saw her do a talk at a "Laydeez Do Comics" event in Brizzle a few years ago and was so convinced I just bought Britten & Brulightly there n then (review here (http://crazyfoxmachine.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/2014-busy-year.html)) - will snap up Adamantine when I get the chance too.

Aw guys you should have just pulled up a seat and said 'mind if I join you?' just about anyone and everyone does that, I've even seen the Mighty John W do it!

I was a late arrival on Saturday, but I knew it was going to be fine when the first three people I saw outside the Con were the trimmed Colin McNeil, Dawn/Juno and the mighty Mr Wagner. Closely follow by the GRennie and Dayglo droids and a sea of wellkent faces lapping up the sunshine outside the Scarymango Bar.

Then pints with fellow boarders Satanist, Dog, Dode and Dunk! and a trip to wethershpoons to be taxed again and again by the waiting staff for our effeminate Edinburger ways.
An early night (compared to other Library Scum I could mention) around oneish.

Back to Wspoons and brunch with Dawn, which set us up for the aftie, great to see the Satanist Clan out in force while Dog Deever dragged a corpse in a case about all day. Finally got to the Con to watch the highly entertaining John McShane break the fourth wall and then my new 'book chum' Howard C perform as only he can.

A few beers before the final curtain with Peter Milligan and impossibly connected John McShane and its time to head off home with Dode  and Colin McNeil who quickly saw through my attempts to 'help' him with his portfolios and case!

Mr Wells you missed a great Con, Library Scum I salute you, but the star of the show was Alex and his outstanding Dredd drawing, for which I still own him pints!

Sorry no photos but my home PC died yesterday.

The Con seemed less busy than last year, perhaps thanks to the 3 venues.

We got lots of sketches but the stand out this year is Alex Ronald who I still owe several pints (sorry). A lovely Vixen drawing which will be framed and up on the wall asap.

Howard Chaykin was a friendly, filthy man who entertained all at his table. TBH I could have sat and listened to him all day.

Great to meet Peter Milligan and get a few books signed.

Gary Erskine was really nice as well and did a couple of quick sketches for my boys even though he wasn't really there for that. We bought a few of his Star Wars prints which are cracking (Boba Fett, Storm troopers and Han & Chewie).

Met up with the usual suspects (and Dunk, good guy) and agree with the above, if you think its us say hello and we probably wont ditch you and skulk off to another pub  ;)

Didnae see Fungus all weekend or I would've told you to get the round in meet us in whetherspoons.

Family had a great relaxed day on Sunday so all in all another success.

Roll on next years

hi guys!!

Another wonderful year at gcon.  Met lots of friends, picked up some funky comics and drank a little too much!

Fun kicked off with Frank Quitely on thursday with BBC documentary 'What do artists do all day?' with a Q&A afterwards.

Friday, drinks with friends which was lovely and sensibly not too late.

Saturday was tons of fun with the unbeatableJohn Wagner and Alan Grants saucy new sex comedy panel. Hosted by wonderful Stacey Whittle. I got Howard Chaykins siggy on Legend and Peter Milligans on Shade the Changing Man which was nice.

Brunch with Proudhuff and Dode brightened my hangover. Lots of love guys!

Sunday the Breaking the Fourth Wall panel with Peter Milligan, Rufus Dayglo, Jack Teagle, Simon eh transformer and my fave wee John Mcshane. I dont think it was the best subject for a talk but it was interesting all the same and I asked a question as no one else did so thats a bonus.

Also somewhere in there add fabby Colin Macneil, Gary Erskine, Gordon Maclean, Alex Ronald, Iz, satanist, russ and dogdeever. Thanks to everyone and really I mean that - you all made it a weekend to remember!

Big hugs and lots of love x x x x

Sorry to miss the affair - I texted Stace with my arrival but got no reply - later checking showed the number she Facebooked me was a digit too many - that old ruse! By the time she texted me at 11pm to find my whereabouts I had engaged my Plan B  and was in the Corinthian massively pissed with my friend Darren, some burds and a man from Nike France - that old tale.

Next year I'll get an early ticket and station myself at the exit so I can tag along to the pub crawl - like it or not.

Fear not the 'Weakest link' and 'Most letters' tales will only mature and improve with age!
