Great start to the Advent Trooper! Can't go wrong with Fatties!
What a way to start - super star Trooper McFad - thanks for setting this up and giving us such a brilliant opening!
Greate start Trooper McFad :)
Great work, very regal looking!
Thanks guys I've enjoyed making these decy's but my wee office tree is pretty full so don't know if I could squeeze in any more next year.
I'll post the before and after on the usual thread where you can see all the extras I had to add from the minis I purchased.
Brilliant.
But the preferred term is 'Plus-size Wise Men' or 'Magi of a fuller figure', please.

😂😂😂
You're right and if you know the minis I used at least one of them is Female (I think) so the more appropriate term may be
"The 3 Over Sized Wise Persons"
Apologies if anyone was offended 😂😂
What a start! Love it.
Great day 2 Trooper! Wide person or fatty, that guy is going to have to pay for two seats on an airplane (or camel...)!
I like this even better than yesterday's one.
Good thing gold, frankincense and myrrh are inedible or the little baby Jovus would never have got any gifts.
Yep its another winner!

With you all the way. Wonder if Mr Christ Snr. built wooden beliwheels for them.
The third mastadonic magus doesn't disappoint. Armed as well - I suppose all those expensive gifts had to be gotten somehow.
Let's hear it for Trooper McFad, the boarder who saved Christmas!
A great heavyweight start!

Hear hear. I've missed the Advent Calendar and I'm delighted to see it back. You're an absolute, er, Trooper,Trooper.
Guys your too kind but the real stars are the talented community that I believe still exists on this board.
I read every short, look at every sketch listen to all the podcasts and although I don't comment to everyone each are an example of the diverse talents that exist on this board.
Long may it continue and I'll do my wee bit to add to the tooth homages we all love.
My you were off the mark early with that post.
Great look back - in those days I was always looking forward to the Annual as I wasn't a regular prog consumer. Well done JWare 👍🏻

My you were off the mark early with that post.
I knew I wouldn't get a chance to post until later this morning, and I hated to think of the younger members of this forum running downstairs first thing to find that the advent calendar had nothing for them today.
Better, I thought, to post just after midnight, when they'd have been too off their faces on alcopops and ketamine to notice.
Lovely stuff, JWare.
Very enjoyable start to the advent season from some talented boardsters here. Thanks guys!
Great stuff JWare.
Great entry Jware
Once again Trooper McFad - brilliant and well done for keeping this alive!
Feckin brilliant, Colin.
Superb Colin - I wish I could rush things and still produce quality like that.
Nailed that cheery Phoenix tone!

OOOhhhhhh nice - its added to the list.... ohhh with a Brian Bolland alternative as well... can you guess what?
Another great submission Colin- however your threats might just make Squaxx lazy as they
want to see more of these- and who would not.
However guys & girls let's be having you and get your pens/pencils, writing pads or sketch books and scribble down something and join the festive fun.
Great work Colin!
These are great Colin! Not familiar with The Phoenix but these look great! Look at you, flexing your art range with these non-Calvin & Hobbes contributions!
Another cracker Colin- the fact that you knocked this out in 90 + minutes which had 7 goals in it imagine what you could achieve if it was a boring 0-0 and extra time 😂😂😂😂 (won't include pens as they are always exciting)
Awesome stuff Colin. Hope you didn't miss the football though.
Thanks for all the lovelyness folks!
Barrington Boots, for much of the World Cup I've been radioing as I've been a little detached from this one. Its the dream combination, drawing and 5Live.

I know what you mean regarding both the World Cup and listing to the footy on the radio.
My son doesn't get why I'd prefer to listen to a game rather than watch. Probably takes me back to the 80s when very little footy was on the telly. You can't beat a Saturday afternoon in the garden listening to games on the radio. Helps the imagination I feel trying to picture the top corner goal then seeing the highlights and it was nowhere near what was described.
Superb work Colin.
* World Cup footy on the radio while stuck in traffic on a long trip is also a pretty good way to enjoy otherwise misery.
I've been out of touch the past few days and haven't been able to comment on the quality of the contributions.
The contributions are quality.
M.I.K that is a truly Christmas gift to the board for all those gamers out there.
M.I.K. that is amazing! Really, reall
y good!
Feckin hell, MIK. Haven't played the game yet but the build-up alone is amazing. As soon as my laptop is fixed I'll get stuck into the Ultimate Play the Game version of Robo-Hunter.
Loving that Bolland spaghetti monster as well - can't be an easy thing to draw but you've nailed it!
Colin you're a legend, that's some work fun ethic you've got there.
MIK, that's beyond extraordinary...
Very cool M.I.K! I have no concept of how long something like that took, but kudos for doing it. Well done!
Cool stuff so far thanks guys. My talents unfortunately is only good to offend people :)
Another great look back at a Christmas past JWare
A brilliant write-up of the best Christmas Dredd ever. I was very young at the time and but clearly remember my brother buying that shop in a newsagent's that still exists, amazingly, but no longer stocks the prog, and loved that story - I vividly remember the irreverent Italian-American nativity scene. If the priests, nuns, and Christian Brothers who ran the show back then had taken the time to check our reading material, they would have had Tharg extradited and lynched.
The Italian show was a Thing That Went Over My Head.
C'mon – how could I be expected to know Fellini's 8½?
In fairness.
I doubt if it occurred to the Brothers in my school that comics could be blasphemous. They were too concerned with stamping out smoking in the toilets (or, in the case of one Brother, bumming smokes from boys caught smoking).
I certainly didn't know there was a Fellini connection - I have just learned it this minute, in fact. In fairness the Brothers in my school weren't the absolute worst of the teachers either, though that was a low bar.
Thanks for that submission JWare . I do remember those stories in the annuals and I believe I have never read them to this day 😳
However I did read the one you posted and it was very enjoyable.
Looking forward to looking back tomorrow

Please tell me you at least did the crosswords.
To be fair, your story there is better than a lot of the old annual text stories, JWare. Great stuff altogether - love the America-style potted history of MC1, and the America-style in-depth look at that history's effect on Mega-Citizens. You'd be mental not to go mental in MC1.

Thank you kindly, sir.
There was some serious talent producing those stories sometimes. I fondly remember a Pete Milligan take on Max Normal, as well as some bonkers John Smith efforts. Mind you, it was still a bit of a mixed bag. There was a Hershey story in the 1988 Dredd annual for instance, written by some guy called Neil Gaiman, and if that was the best he could do then he can't have amounted to much. The accompanying art was really nice though.
Great, insightful stuff JWare.
Great pic Hoagy- welcome to the submission club 👍🏻😁
Thanks for your patience Trooper!
Never saw your work before, Hoagy, but this tempted me to look back through your old posts.
Vibrant!
Superb stuff Hoagy. Wonderful picture... well I could never wait until tomorrow...
Great stuff again Colin thanks for another submission 👍🏻😁
Oh very nice.
Call me simple, but I really like the colours.
I like that there's a shark in it.
I'm enjoying these a lot, Colin, thanks!
Colin how did you know I love Red Pandas- then you slaughtered him 🙁
Great stuff again always good to get a little chuckle in the morning 😂
Another sweetly-rendered and deceptively simple four-panel cartoon with an excessively violent end.
Yup – that'll do me.
Once again another great look back and memories of stories past come flooding back. Strange how remembering those scenes from such a long time ago still seems like only yesterday thumbing through the hallowed pages of tooth.
I'll soon be doing my Xmas annual reread which takes me back to those innocent days. 😁
What a brilliant, if darkly errr festive - post! Nice one JWare... can we get the Johnny Alpha 90s rant on Xmas eve please.
Great stuff guys! Loving Colin's Phoenix-inspired stuff and another cool bit of prose from Jware. Chopper is the one that stood out for me - at the time that had so much pathos it felt like a massive event in my life as a reader and that's never really changed.
McFad, I have added some Red Panda to my offering just for you.

Now I'm intrigued!
Lovely stuff as always, JWare. With you all the way with Chopper - the Ennis story, the Supersurf in the rebuilt East Meg 2 and the pop recipe ones didn't happen. No sir.
I also loved the poignancy of Feg's death - he became a very intriguing character in The Horned God, with a lot of pathos added to the evil. (Are you quite sure it was his guts that Sláine threw the Gae Bolga into, though? I believe the floppy fella may have preferred that.)
Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 15 December, 2022, 03:24:50 PM
Are you quite sure it was his guts that Sláine threw the Gae Bolga into, though? I believe the floppy fella may have preferred that.
On referral to the source material, I must concede the point.
Ouch.
That must have been my memory censoring itself for my own good. (Mind you, the upward trajectory of the spear meant that guts
were involved somewhere along the line.)
Speaking as someone who has read The Horned God way too many times, I can tell you that there were guts involved, prior to the Goddess's hilarious erection joke. Our man was tied to the ground as Feg was planning to, ahem, 'lop the golden bough',
but Sláine thrust the tusks of his boar-shaped hero harness into Feg's innards. Feg kind of magically fixed them, but then got a taste of his own mickey-mangling medicine.
And that's the gutting I remember.
I must have looked up the episode so I could quote Feg's dying speech, but I clearly never sorted out the nitty-gritty of intestinal/genital trauma.
A bull of conflict are you, JayzusB.

Fantastic Colin. I'm sure I'm not the only one that was waiting for your Calvin & Hobbes parody.
It's now a Christmas tradition that goes hand in hand with the Advent- no advent No Calvin & Hobbes parody
Perfect.
Absolutely brilliant.
Like a thicko, I was trying to work out who stubbly Calvin was meant to be, till it occurred to me to read the title.
Anyway, I love it.
Sorry, everyone, it's not going to be an early-morning entry for me tomorrow. But it'll arrive at some point tomorrow. Apologies, I'm just shite at time management.
Pure class, JayzusB, and well worth waiting for.
The stogie and the Sláine doll are my favourite details, but you could put this on a calendar or a tin of shortbread and I'd be happy to look at it all day.
Thank you!
I feel it's about time Tharg, at his age, started putting on a few pounds like the rest of us.
That is super JayzusB the details with the toys are brilliant- I want a cuddly Gornk

And thanks, Sharky. I lost my fancy art pens so took a leaf out of your sketchbook and used biro, for the first time in years. I'd forgotten how nice it is to draw with - a very underrated medium.
I have been enjoying ALL these each morning when I wake up but am behind on commenting! I've been appreciating eve one's efforts, including Colin's cartoons (happy to see a Calvin and Hobbs piece!) To JBCs super detailed piece, wow! Love all those toys!
Rogue Judge - that is quite superb. Bravo.
Well done, Rogue Judge.
You kept us in suspense long enough but you delivered the goods in the end.
Well worth the wait RJ - excellent stuff
Another winner on a thread of winners!
Love it!! Worth waiting for
Boots that is some effort- I will play through this tonight as at work just now but will let you know the outcome.👍🏻
This is a delight!
Lordy, Boots, but you put some work into this.
Thanks guys! It was fun to do but I think you can tell when I started running out of steam.
For anyone actually interested in finishing it, you'll need one numerical clue from each investigation branch.
All work was suspended while I read through this.
I am in awe of the elegant simplicity of the plot, and how all the threads are so logically and neatly tied together in
para 29
.
I'd mention my favourite bits, but it'd make this post wall-to-wall spoilers. I will say though that '
traumatic backstory
' had me sputtering.
Oh wow that is quite something - though I'm still to crack the case - failed on my one go through so far though was plying more detective than Klegg and I wonder if that let me down!

Also, apologies once again but I think tomorrow's offering will be a bit later in the day too. Turned out my workload hadn't slowed down quite as much as I wanted it to by now.
Maybe if you hadn't wasted time mocking innocent grammatical slips, you'd be on top of this "workload" of yours. Just saying.
*searches hard for self-righteous emoji. gives up*
Barrington that was a great story/game book. Not tried one of these since my teenage years.
I want to go to the Panda Hotel and maybe purchase a Red Panda on the black market 😁 anyway I never sussed the clues and got fired in all my run through (also ate a couple of suspects for fun).
Eventually read the who thing an when I found the "winning" number I am still bamboozled 🤪.
Anyway that was a great submission- better start thinking up one for next year 😁👍🏻
Thanks for the kind words fellas :)

It's affair cop.
Thanks for all the nice words guys. In the spirit of 80s gamebooks it's quite unfair, but if anyone does want an actual shot at really solving it:
- Eating someone could be a good idea, but don't eat anyone important
- You need one numerical 'clue' from each suspect
- Don't think too hard about solving it because the solution is, frankly, nonsense.

Another cracking pic and I love the way you tied the 2 together- Thrag giving out presents and then Thrag being given as a present 👍🏻
Thank you! Got to admit, it was meant to be Elfric, but your idea is better so I'll pretend it was mine. ;)

If that's a rush job, it's a pretty gobsmacking one.
You know your way round a biro, sir, and no mistake.
(But where oh where is the wooden Durham Red we felt we'd been promised?)
I just wanted to register my gratitude to the fine boarders who've diligently kept this wonderful forum tradition going this year. December is always a bit chaotic, work-wise,* for me so any half-formed ideas for a contribution will probably stay that way, I'm afraid... but I did want to say thank you for all your efforts, which have cheered me up no end.
*Basically, everyone and their mother suddenly decides that they want to get their projects over the finish line before the holidays.
Totally understandable, Jim - as a freelancer myself I know what December is like when clients want everything done at the same time.
And thanks for your kind words about my drawing today, all - I wasn't sure about it at all so I'm really glad people liked it.

Never mind the lack of Christmas theme, and no disrespect to your Satanus submission, but these are the business.
(I particularly like the Leviathan one.)
And I have to agree with JayzusB: I want the stories that go with these pictures.
Brilliant Rogue Judge. would love to read both of those!
Christmas theme be damned.

As for the fatties and the giant squid? That's all about the race to build a big enough fryer.
And Hitler in a space suit? What more do you need? There's a story that practically writes itself.

Thanks guys- I hadn't planned to "release" Gene until January but the Advent needed another date filled.
What inspired me to box him was the worst Christmas film that I watched for the first time a few weeks ago- Jingle all the way - and imagined mini Squaxx running around trying to find the latest and greatest Tooth figure. Much like what might happen to the Hiya range.
JWare it was a self build from a Hulk figure
Colin my wife has dibs on 12 inches of Gene 😂😂😂
Barrington yes I used a tooth badge to adorn the packaging and I got lucky finding the right size to fit Gene. If I had more time I would have painted the outside but happy with the results.
As said I'll unbox on the 26th and post more detailed pictures and comments.

Take care be positive and have a Merry Christmas everyone.
Always believe next year will be better 🤔 🤞🏻
Thanks to you, Trooper, for putting it all together.
Well that was magnificent wasn't it. Hopefully some more will come in today but overall simply magnificent effort all round folks.
Nice touch at the end there by Broodblik hunting down those Droid images.
The big thank you goes to Trooper McFad for not only keeping this venerable tradition alive, but making it such a glorious thing again this year.
If I had a hat on I'd doff it to you sir... but I don't ... so errr... THANK YOU!

I couldn't have done it without my Elf's working hard in the background 👍🏻🎅🏻
Well, the 24th has been an absolutely brilliant day on the calendar. Thanks, everyone. Sharky, I will read your story, I promise! Something to look forward to during a quieter hour over the Christmas period.
Posted few more picture mostly old covers

Sharky, I didn't have time to read this but I read it anyway.
Carry on being legendary.
Does
"Carry on being Legendary" equate to
"Don't give up the day job"? :-D
Seriously though, thanks all - and thanks to everyone who made this Advent Calendar one to remember and yet another reason why this place is the bestest hangout on the entire interweb.

Naturally, I took 'legendary' to mean a larger-than-life figure that is an inspiration to us all.
Why? Did you think I meant a grotesque monster that we use to frighten children but don't really believe in ourselves?
Ridiculous idea!
I think the jury's still out on that one...
