Film & TV / Iron Sky
09 May, 2008, 04:03:04 PM
Nice trailer

Iron Sky will be the second film by the creators of Star Wreck, the most popular Internet feature film of all time, as well as the most popular Finnish film ever. Over 8 million people have downloaded Star Wreck since its free Internet release in 2005. The film was eventually distributed by Universal Pictures as a premium DVD.

Iron Sky is a pitch-black science fiction comedy that holds nothing sacred. It combines the dry irony of Dr. Strangelove with the visual style of invasion films such as Independence Day. Finns are known for their dark wit, perhaps due to their history successively under the oppressive thumb of Sweden, Russia, and the Nazis. Star Wreck repeatedly skewered Russia (and was wildly successful there), and Iron Sky continues in the same vein of mocking totalitarianism.

Film & TV / MacGyver...the movie
06 May, 2008, 11:10:12 AM
for the luvva...

Today at Maker Faire 2008, MacGyver creator (and real life inspiration) Lee David Zlotoff announced he has a big budget MacGyver movie in the planning stages.

Zlotoff mentioned he somehow ended up with the movie rights years ago (extremely uncommon), giving him full control over the film. While few specifics were mentioned, and no formal announcement has been made, its extremely promising that the man with the power to make the film is getting the ball rolling. The question is...do you bring back Richard Dean Anderson as old MacGyver, or bring in a younger, Christian Bale-type to reprise the role of makeshift gadget god?

From todays Drawn.ca

Manga vs. Marvel -- it's truly an unfair comparison to gauge how well Marvel Comics originally adapted the classic trilogy films against how Japanese artists did the same.

This list isn't really meant to be a competition; instead it's a contrast at how different cultures approach the same subject matter in graphically illustrated form. What follows are key moments of the Star Wars trilogy as presented in Japanese manga by Media Works in 1997, placed next to moments as already interpreted by Marvel writers and artists.

Off Topic / The Lichtenstein Project

For the last 25 years David Barsalou has examined over 30,000 comic
books (a kind of obsession) to find the cartoon images Lichtenstein
used in his work.

-----------

I think one of the most notable things is how vastly superior the original drawings are

but maybe that's not the point

Film & TV / Star Wars TV Series
17 October, 2007, 01:47:42 PM
The less Lucas has to do with the better

Star Wars creator George Lucas has said he has started work on a live-action TV series based on his sci-fi saga.

"It's about minor characters," he told the Los Angeles Times. "It's completely different. But it's a good idea, and it's going to be a lot of fun to do."

LucasFilm is also working on an animated TV series, expanded from its earlier Clone Wars shorts.

The half-hour cartoon series takes place between the events depicted in the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith films.

The live-action TV series will take place in the Star Wars universe but will not feature the Skywalker family, as had previously been suggested.

Film & TV / Todd MacFarlanes Wizard of Oz

"There will be no Munchkins skipping among the daisies, and the Yellow Brick Road will be updated with the latest computer technology in the Warner Brothers remake of one of the most popular films of all time.

The film studio has joined forces with a comic book artist and a writer better known for his work in the thriller genre to produce a revisionist version of the Wizard of Oz, the 1939 classic that turned Judy Garland into a teenage superstar."

wh..what are the munchkins doing to Dorothy?

"He told Variety magazine that he wants to give the film a dark edginess, with Dorothy "much closer to the Ripley from Alien than a helpless singing girl".

Books & Comics / Operation Red Dragon
03 July, 2007, 12:51:07 PM
Set in the European Parliament  and the fictitious country Fang Dong, â??Operation Red Dragonâ? is the fictional story of Elisa Correr, an MEP who gets embroiled in a  risky and fascinating adventure whilst in pursuit of her parliamentary activities.

European Parliamentarians  do not  generally  lead such dangerous lives as Elisa Correr, nevertheless you can learn about the the work of an MEP, the ALDE political group, the European Parliament and the other European Institutions through this story.

New instalments will be available for download every week from this site. So come back to follow the adventures of Elisa Correr.

The aim of the comic strip is to illustrate the activities and processes of the European Parliament in a more accessible and enjoyable format than studying text books about the EU. Enjoy !
