I've got a stack of ideas, so I'll try and do another Dash-o-rama on the free-for-all day, if I get the time to work on them.

If anyone wants a couple of suggestions, let me know.  I think a couple of my ideas are good enough to deserve better than my lousy attempts at realising them.

Those Complete Zeniths for 2.99 were a steal!  Pity they're all gone now.
Yes, I'm joking!
My son (9) said pretty much the same thing when I tried to get him to read, or at least look through, an early prog.  He has however read a couple of B&W one page strips in a couple of IPC funny comics and even watched a black & white movie with me (though staying up late was probably the real attraction there), so there is some hope.

Having bought the material in prog form, and in various reprint formats, do I want another variation to buy?

Judge Dredd the XXX Files by John Wagner

It's a typo - It's meant to be "Judge Dredd: The Zzz files, a collection of the most boring Dredd tales from the last 35 years."  Can you guess what's in it?

The Arnold Shwarzenegger film "The Sixth Day" was on TV last night.  I hadn't seen it before.

The story includes "RePets", a service offering clones of deceased pets.  It reminded me of the pet resurrection service run by Dr. Icarus in the "Dredd vs Death" game.  In both cases the treatments used on pets foreshadow something similar happening with people.

I think the movie came first but perhaps pet cloning/resurrection is a more common SF idea than I'm aware of.

That's one crappy looking Land Raider.

It looks like the Little Engine that Could crossed with some metallic cockroaches.

Nighthawks by Hopper has to be one of the most referenced and homaged pieces of art in the comics field. There's countless examples of it being used... no I don't have any to hand you'll just have to trust me...

And not just in comics.  And the same could be said for American Gothic.

What's interesting about this one is how very flagrant a rip-off it is of Rudolph Zallinger's 1960 painting of Brontosaurus being attacked by Allosaurus

They say very flagrant a rip-off, Tharg says 'homage'.

Speaking of homages, I'm sure we've had a few variations on the 'people in the late night diner with the curved front' painting show up in the prog and meg.

Oh also - I don't think swearing is necessary.

I agree, but perhaps they thought you can't have the Cursed Edge without a lot of cursing.

I don't recall seeing LJ Silver anywhere before, but then I never used to pay that much attention to the credits.

LJ Silver = Long John Silver.  Nice one!

Down the Tubes have a variant Mars Attack cover on display, showing Stan Lee (the 'nuff said one) as a Judge.

(Well, he's meant to be a Judge but he's obviously a jimp, given his name badge has his Christian name rather than his surname, and he's got writing on his glove.)

I'm sure that's the placeholder cover that was used before the red one was finalised/revealed.  I remember seeing it on Amazon UK when I pre-ordered CF1, and also being disappointed when they changed it to the red design as I liked the black one better.  It reminded me a bit of the last two Black Flame Dredd novels.  They finally got their act together with a uniform cover design...and the series ended!

(I also preferred the placeholder cover for the SD Agency files 1 better than what we got.  They were the same, but the original had some faint enlarged panels as background.)
