Film & TV / Hellboy 3

It's not happening or anything, I just really want it to. The last comments on it I'd read were Perlman saying he'd do it with another director as long as Del Toro was writing, but now that Del Toro isn't doing The Hobbit anymore Perlman's been getting his hopes up. And mine.

Watched HB2 on blu-ray the other night and it looks niiiiiiice.

Help! / Stuck pixel on my LCD telly?
20 January, 2011, 07:17:33 PM
Hi, wonder if anyone has any tips...

During a marathon Sons of Anarchy blu-ray session today I noticed that in most shots there was a tiny white pixel in the same spot on the screen. It didn't show up in some scenes but once I'd spotted it I found it pretty impossible to ignore.

I checked online and there are a few sites saying you should press the pixel or rub it to try and reset it, but that sounds a bit dodgy to me. Surely that would just damage it more?

Anyone had a similar problem and been able to sort it? I'm sure I can learn to ignore one dodgy pixel, but it was a slightly upsetting discovery.

Originally thought this was fake for PR, but after watching through a few of the videos it seems pretty genuine. And funny*.

*Yup, I know that promoting a game on the basis that it's violent and your parents will disapprove isn't really helping gaming's image at all, but some of those reactions are priceless.

Help! / Malware opening browser windows constantly?!
16 December, 2010, 03:30:29 PM
Anyone had this? My dad has just phoned with this going on, I reckon he's picked it up from a dodgy facebook app. I've tried to get him to download hijackthis and do a scan so I can get it checked, but he's getting a bit stressed and is scared to do it himself. I reckon I could sort it if I was in front of it, but over the phone it's a nightmare! Anyone know of an easy fix for something like this? I've got him unplugged from the net just now which stops it, which suggests to me it's specific to his browser (he's using Chrome).

Heeeelp!

Edit: The Malware thing is an assumption, I currently have no grounding to brand it as such!

Hi all!

The third of the You Already Know digital singles series is out now (I posted the video for the 2nd one a while back and some of you seemed to like it) so thought I'd do a bit of pimping here!

It's called 'The Stride', is taken from the upcoming album 'Petrol Money', costs £1 and comes with the exclusive b-side 'Bearhug - live improv'.

You can buy the other 2 singles, 'Boomstick' and 'Let's Fuck' at the link too, they're both a pound with b-sides too.

Please give them a listen and buy if you like, any feedback (constructive or otherwise) welcome. Cheers!

Rented this recently, and its great fun! It seems to have been sneaked out with no real marketing push or fanfare, which is a shame because its up there with some of the best shooters out. The plot is very 2000AD (its a time travel conundrum whatsit with alternate histories and stuff) and the mechanics are a lot of fun to play around with (you can freeze time in localized areas and also age people and objects at an advanced rate). Freezing time around a group of tightly bunched enemies, dropping an explosive barrel (yup, they're in it) in the air in the middle of them, then firing a bullet into it and watching the result in slo-mo is a moment of joy that will stay with me forever.

Its short of being a classic, it riffs a bit too heavily on Bioshock for it's own good and some of the enemies aren't as well thought out, but the set-pieces are fantastic and the story really satisfying pulp sci-fi.

Anyone tried it?

We (You Already Know) just shot our first music video, and its turned out rather swell! Really chuffed with it. Its for our next single, which has a rude word in the title so I won't type it. Was shot and edited by Graeme Hutton, who did a very fast, very good job.

I did wear a Dredd t-shirt for the shoot with the intention of representing toothy, but because of the direction we went for you really don't see it much! Or at all really.

General / New Dredd T-Shirt in HMV!

Well, maybe new, I certainly hadn't spotted it before today. Black with the 'pop art' Warhol style cover (think it was prog 600-odd), complete with toothy logo and price/prog number etc.

Only ten beans, and very nice.

Its been a while since I posted any band spam, but when the first album came out you were all very accommodating about my spammy nature and even bought a few copies (thanks again!) so I feel compelled to post this.

We're going to be releasing 3 digital singles in the run-up to our 2nd album 'Petrol Money' coming out early 2011 and the first single 'Boomstick' is up to stream for free from Myspace or Soundcloud and maybe some other places. If you like it it's available to buy from itunes from next week for a princely £1 with an exclusive b-side (old school 7" style but for the new millenium and all that).

So if you fancy giving us a try, or even bought the first album and didn't entirely loathe it, then please have a listen to 'Boomstick' at www.myspace.com/youak and check out our website at www.youalreadyknow.net for more YAK info.

Thanks!

Anyone know what happened to this? I picked up the first few issues and the trade, but haven't seen it anywhere since. Have failed at finding more info online too, anyone know if this disappeared off the map or is just on a break or something?

With clips!

Haven't had a chance to watch them, but I know it'll keep me entertained when work gets quiet later.

Edit: 10. Make that 10. I wondered where the rest of them had gone.

I know, I really shouldn't get excited or remotely interested by these movies, but the Milla factor is strong for me and the trailer has actually got me looking forward to it.

There's something about Milla in the rain with dual shotguns while A Perfect Circle blasts in the background that just guarantees I'll queue up for it.

Film & TV / ANOTHER Punisher reboot.
03 September, 2010, 08:34:50 PM
Have spotted a few mentions online that now the rights to The Punisher movies have reverted from Lionsgate back to Marvel, Marvel have stated they're gonna have their own stab at a movie.

Can't say I'm too keen on this, mainly because War Zone's bad box office means it'll most likely be another fresh boot of it, which is just going to confuse people. Again.

Incidentally I loved the Tom Jane movie and thought he did a great job, was gutted he stepped down from a sequel. Think I loved War Zone more though, its closer to what I'm after and Stevenson IS Frank Castle in that movie. Got Blu-ray recently and have watched a handful of movies so far, and War Zone is easily the best looking of the bunch, I love what they did with the lighting and sets in that film.

Its a slow night at work, hence the ramble...

Right, I don't normally go for spoilers, but when a friend tells me something is the sickest film EVAH and that I should never ever watch it I'm gonna check the plot synopsis on wiki. And....fucking hell.

Demo for this is up now, and it seems pretty good. Its odd playing an open world game where you get a wanted rating just for driving a little bit fast though, took me aback. You can find booby mags in it too AND ZOOM IN ON THE BOOBIES. 10/10.

Not often I dust off the wii-mote (and good lord was it dusty) but this came through from lovefilm and is fairly entertaining. The visual-style works really well and sidesteps the wii's lack of graphical punch, and the gameplay is damn fun, despite occasionally suffering from the wii's usual lack of responsiveness at times. A bit like a cross between Escape From New York and No More Heroes, not bad.

Other Reviews / Dredd: Complete Case Files 14
04 July, 2010, 09:54:15 AM
Was pretty excited about this one as with this collection the Case Files have now caught up to the first Dredd episode I can remember buying. I'd read bits and pieces at a friends house but when I finally started getting the prog it was 3 episodes from the end of Necropolis, but have never read the whole story until now.

I'm obviously missing something because I've never read The Dead Man, glancing at the first few pages of this I thought it had been included but seemingly not. Still, didn't really lead to any confusion other than why Dredd's all haggard.

Loved the story, the countdown stories are a nice touch and the ominous atmosphere they generate, and the artwork is just stunning. Ezquerra is my favorite Dredd artist and looking at Necropolis it's possibly my favorite work he's ever done on it. The use of colors is fantastic, it's all got a bit of a surreal edge to it (I found it reminded me of Suspiria in a lot of places) and then there'll be the odd panel with no color at all that stands out and looks stunning as a result. Until now I'd always had either Bolland or Irving down as my favorite Death artists but I dunno, this is pretty awesome.

So hivemind, wonder if you can help...

Haven't sold much stuff on ebay but have a listing up for some Red Dead playing cards, when I set up the listing I put the postage as £2.50 UK and a buyer has got in touch asking how much to ship to Germany. If there's only a UK postage price on the listing and it sells internationally do you then arrange another postage price? Can you arrange another postage price?

Any help much appreciated, tried the ebay help and can't quite get the info I'm after!

Don't know much about this, but doesn't look like Rebellion are at the reigns (Konami seem to be in charge), but are on dev duties so worth a look.

Film & TV / Overnight
13 June, 2010, 05:20:36 PM
A few years old this, anyone seen it? Saw it this weekend and found it pretty fascinating, if a cringe to watch at times. It's a documentary about Troy Duffy, a barman who gets a massive Hollywood deal from the Weinsteins to make The Boondock Saints, and it's basically the story of how his massive ego and attitude towards the people around him destroyed it all. It's a bit uneven (it seems like there's chunks of "story" missing here and there), but it's quite absorbing watching him get what's coming to him.

A bit like Dig! but for movies, although Dig! is pretty funny throughout because the people involved are so ridiculous, this guy doesn't even have that going for him. A lot of people say the film's a hatchet job and he's not that bad, but either way it makes for a good watch.
